AN ORDINANCE
APPROPRIATING $7,612.00 FROM FUND NO. 296
IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1950 CONSTRUCTION FUND
(STREET TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM) TO COVER
THE COST OF TRAFFIC LIGHT INSTALLATIONS AT
THE INTERSECTION OF AYERS AND TARLTON,
AYERS AND NORTON, PORT AND MDRGAN, PORT
AND BALDWIN, HIGHWAY 44 AND OLD ROBSTOWN
ROAD, BALDWIN AND AIRPORT ROAD, MESQUITE
AND WILLIAM, ALAMEDA AND LOUISIANA (NORTH),
ALAMEDA AND LOUISIANA (SOUTH), ALA = AND
SOUTHERN, AYERS AND EIGHTEENTH, AND AT
1100 E. PORT AVENUE (CAUTION LIGHT), WITH
SPECIAL FEATURES AS DESCRIBED IN THE RE-
CONNENDATION, ESTIMATE AND SKETCH ATTACHED
HERETO AND MADE A PART HEREOF, INCLUDING
THE LIGHTS AND THE INSTALLATION THEREOF,
SAID WORK TO BE DONE BY CITY FORCES; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, there are needed traffic light installations
as a part of the traffic control system for the City of Corpus
Christi at the intersections of Ayers and Tarlton, Ayers and
Norton, Port and Morgan, Port and Baldwin, Highway #" and Old
Robstown Road, Baldwin and Airport Road, Mesquite and Williams,
Alameda and Louisiana (north), Alameda and Louisiana (South),
Alameda and Southern, Ayers and Eighteenth, and at 1.100 E. Port
Avenue (Caution light) to alleviate the traffic hazard now exist-
ing at these intersections; and
WHEREAS, there is needed for such equipment and in-
stallations the sum of $7,612.00, and there are sufficient funds
available for such appropriation in Fund No. 296 Improvement
Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Street Traffic Control System);
and
WHEREAS, said work is to be done by the City Forces:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS;
SECTION 1. There is hereby appropriated out of Fund
No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Street Traffic
Control System) the amount of $70612.00 to cover the cost of
materials and installation thereof for the proposed traffic
light installations at the aforesaid intersections, as more
fury described in the recommendation, estimate and sketches
attached hereto and made a part hereof;
SECTION 2. The Director of Public Works is directed
and authorised to proceed with the aforesaid work in accordance
with such estimates and sketches, said work of installation
to be performed by City Forces;
SECTION 3. The necessity for commencement of the
aforesaid project as a part of the traffic control system of
the City in order to reduce the high personal and property
damage,the result of accidents at said intersectiona,and to
safely direct traffic on said streets, creates a public emergency
and imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of
the Charter rule providing that no ordinance or resolution
shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several
meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared
that such emergency and necessity exist, and requesting that
such Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be
in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS
ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED,

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a .public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
