AN ORDINANCE
DESIGNATING AND NAMING THAT AREA DE-
SCRIBED AND SET ASIDE AS PARK AREA IN
ORDINANCE NO. 2749 (BEING THAT AREA
BETWEEN EAST AND WEST SHORELINE DRIVES
FROM FUEMAN AVENGE ON THE SOUTH TO THE
SOUTH LINE GF PARK AVENUE EXTENDED ON
W NCRTH) "McCAUGHAN PARR, AND DE-
CLAMG AN EMERGENCY,
WHEREAS, The Bayfront Development Program of the City of
Corpus Christi was, as to the portion thereof extending from Craig
Street on the south to Carroll Street on the north, completed dur-
ing the administration of A. C. McCAUGHAN as Mayor of the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas; and
WHEREAS, The said A. C. McCAUGHAN rendered valuable services
as Mayor of the City of Corpus Christi for eight years, and has been
and is a valuable citizen of the City of Corpus Christi, and it is
fitting and proper that a suitable recognition of his unselfish con-
tributions to the development and improvement of the City of Corpus
Christi be made; and
WHEREAS, The area between East Shoreline and West Shoreline
Drives extending to the south of Park Avenue extended has been by
Ordinance No. 2749 designated as park area, and said area is as yet
unnamed, and the recommendation of many citizens of Corpus Christi,
including the Park and Recreation Board of the City of Corpus Christi,
has been expressed as being favorable to the naming of said park
area as "McCAUGHAN PARK":
NOW, THEREFORE, PE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION I. That the area designated and described
in Ordinance No. 2749, being certain areas between East and West
Shoreline Drives, from Furman Avenue on the South to the South line
of Park Avenue extended on the North, as park and recreation areas
of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, be and the same is hereby
designated as "McCAUGHAN PARK" and shall hereafter be known as
"McCAUGHAN PARK".
SECTION II. The fact that the said park area
is now unnamed and that the naming of the same as herein provid-
ed is a matter of immediate public interest creates a public em-
ergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the auspen-
lion of the Charter rule that no ordinance orresolution shall be
passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordin-
ance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the
City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and
Necessity to exist, having requested said Charter rule be suspend-
ed, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its
introduction, and that this ordinance take effect and be in full
force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO
ORDAINED.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
