On this the 12th day of September, A. D. 1950, the City
Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, convened in re-
gular meeting with the following members of said Council present,
to -wit:
Jack DeForrest Mayor Pro Tem.
Berney Cott
Sydney E. Herndon Commissioners
George L. Lowman
C. W. Petters City Secretary
With the following absent: Mayor Leslie Wasserman, still con-
stituting a quorum, at which time the following among other
business was transacted:
Mr. Jack DeForrest, Mayor Pro Tem, presented for the
consideration of the Council an Ordinance. The Ordinance was
read by the City Secretary. The Mayor pro tern presented to
the Council a communication in writing pertaining to said
proposed Ordinance, as follows:

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause
of the foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative
necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or re-
quirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally
on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or reso-
lution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I,
therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or
requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.

Commissioner Cott made a motion that the Charter pro-
vision prohibiting ordinances from being finally passed on the
date introduced be suspended for the reasons stated in the
written request of the Mayor and stated in the emergency clause
of the Ordinance. The motion was seconded by Commissioner
Herndon. The motion was carried by a unanimous note by the
City Council, viz:
Ayes: Commissioners Cott, Herndon, and Lowman
Nayes: None
Mayor Pro Tem DeForrest requested to be recorded as
voting "Aye ".
Commissioner Cott made a motion that the Ordinance
be passed finally. The motion was seconded by Commissioner
Lowman. The motion was carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Commissioners Cott, Herndon, and Lowman
Reyes: Now
Mayor Pro Tem DeForrest requested be be recorded
as voting "Aye°.
The Meyor Pro tern announced that the Ordinance had
been passed. The Ordinance is as follows:
AN ORDINANCE
SETTING UP, CREATING AND DIVIDING THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, INTO EIGHT (8) WARDS;
DESCRIBING THE BOUNDARIES THEREOF; REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES THAT
CONFLICT HEREWITH AND DECLARING AN EMRGENCY.
WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary to change the City
wards of the City of Corpus Christi in order to secure better
voting facilities for the citizens of Corpus Christi and in
order to conform to the general laws of the State of Texas re-
garding the holding of elections;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi, Texas,,
as its boundaries now exist, is hereby divided into eight (8)
wards and the metes and bounds of said wards shall be as
follows, to -wit:
City Ward No. 1 shall comprise and shall include that
area bounded as follows, to Brit:
Beginning at the intersection of the centerlines of
South Staples Street and Craig Avenue; thence northerly along
the centerline of South Staples Street to its intersection
with Kinney Avenue; thence westerly along the centerline of
Kinney Avenue to the intersection of Brownlee Boulevard; thence
northerly with the centerline of Brownlee Boulevard to its
intersection with Leopard Street; thence easterly along the
centerline of Leopard Street to the intersection of North Staples
Street, thence north along the centerline of Staples Street
to its intersection with Cobra Street; thence along the center-
line of Cobra Street to its intersection with West Broadway;
thence along the centerline of West Broadway Street to its
intersection with Port Avenue; thenca north across the Magnolia
Petroleum Company tract to the south shoreline of the turning
basin; thence westerly with the south shoreline of the turning
basin to its intersection with the City Limits line; thence
north with the original western City Limits line to the ori-
ginal northwest corner of the City Limits; thence east with
the original northern City Limits line as surveyed by C.F.H.
V. Blucher in August, 1883i�to_its- intersection with the center-
lines of Avenue F, extended, of Brooklyn Subdivision; thence
in a northeasterly direction with the centerline of Avenue F
crossing the southern shoreline of Nueces Bay and continuing
along said centerline extended to a point which bears North
32°East 700 feet from the centerline of 34th Street of Brooklym
Subdivision; thence southeast to a point on the south edge
of the South abutment of the draw span of Nueces Bay Boulevard
on State Highway 16; thence due east parallel to the original
northern City Limits line to its intersection with the original
east City Limits line extended; thence south along the or#nal -
east City Limits line to a point that is due east of the inter-
section of Craig Street and Ocean Drive; thence westerly along
the centerline of Craig Street to its intersection with Staples
Street and the place of beginning.
City Ward No. 2 shall comprise and shall include that
area bounded as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at the intersection of Kinney Avenue and
Brownlee Boulevard; thence westerly along the centerline of
Kinney Avenue to its intersection with the Tex Flex railroad;
theme, continuing westerly along the centerline of the Tex-
MM railroad to Port Avenue; thence northeasterly along the
centerline of Port Avenue to its intersection with Comanche
Street, thence westerly along the centerline of Comanche
Street to its intersection with Palm Avenue; thence north
along the centerline of Palm Avenue to its intersection with
B.g A11 Street; thence northwesterly along the oenterline of
mall Street to Ats intersection with Palm Drive; thence
northeasterly along the centerline:of.Palm Drive to its inter-
section with West Broadway; thence north along the General
American Transportation Corporation tract to the south shore-
line of the turning basinence easterly 4ong the south
Shoreline of the turning basin to a pid.nt due north of the
intersection of Port Avenue and West Broadwayf thence easterly
along the centerline of West Broadway to the intersection of
Cabra Street; thence southwesterly along the centerline of
Cabra Street to ito intersection with North Staples; thence
along the centerline of North Staples Street to its inter-
section with Leopard; thence west along the centerline of
Leopard Street to its intersection with Brownlee Boulevard;
thence along the centerline of Brownlee Boulevard to Kinney
Avenue and the place of beginning.
City Ward fib. 3 shall comprise and shall include'mat
area bounded as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at the intersection of Port Avenue and Agnes
Street; thence westerly along the centerline of Agnes Street
to the City Limits line; thence in a northerly and northwesterly
direction with the east boundary line of Baldwin Boulevard to
its intersection with the south boundary line of a 60 -foot
road connecting Old Robstown Road and Baldwin Boulevard;
thence in a southeasteirly and easterly direction with the
south boundary line of said 60-Coot road connecting Old Robs -
town Road and Baldwin Boulevard to its intersection with the
southwestern boundary line of Glen Royal Subdivision,**ssing `
a southern corner of rilla Gardens Subdivision and continuing
with the line of said subdivision to its western corner, being
the southern corner of t e Sturm Estate 89 -acre tract; thence
in a northerly direction with the southeastern lips of said
Sturm Tract crossing State Highway No. 9 and continuing with
the same line to the eastern corner of said tract, said corner
being in the west line of Old Shell or Upriver Road; thence:
across Old Shell:.or Upriver Road to the intersection of the

east line of Poth Lane with the north line of said road; thence
in a northeasterly direction with the eastl.ine of Poth Lane
to its intersection with the south line of Gibson Street (Parr
Drive); thence southeasterly with the south line of Gibson
Street to its intersection with the centerline of Retsma
Avenue; thence southwesterly with the centerline of Retama
Avenue to the northern corner of Oak Lawn Subdivision; thence
southeasterly with the northeast line of Oak lawn Subdivision
to the eastern corner of said subdivision, same corner being
the northern corner of the Southwestern 0 & R. Company, H. H.
Edwards at al 32.2 -nacre tract, and continuing with the north-
eastern line of the said Edwards tract to its eastern corner
in the northwest line of the Baymoor Subdivision; thence north-
easterly with the northwestern line of Baymoor Subdivision to
the northern corner of said subdivision; thence southeasterly
with the northeastern line of Baymoor Subdivision to its inter-
section with the eastern line of Nueces Bay Boulevard; thence
northeasterly with the eastern line of Nueces Bay Boulevard to its
intersection with the original western City limits line as
surveyed by C.F. H. v. blucher in August, 1883; thence north
with the original western city limits line to the south shore-
line of the turning basin; thence easterly with the south
shoreline of the turning basin to a point that is due north
of the intersection of West Broadway and Papa Drive; thence
along the centerline of Palm Drive to the intersection of Bag -
nall Street; thence easterly along the centerline of Bagnall
Street to its intersection with Palm Avenue; thence southerly
along the centerline of Palm Avenue to its intersection with
Comanche Street; thence easterly along the centerline of
Comanche Street to the intersection of Port Avenue; thence
southeasterly along the centerline of Port Avenue to its inter-
section with Agnes Street and the place of beginning.
City Ward No. 4 shall comprise and shall include that
area bounded as follows, to -wit:
4 Beginning at the intersection of Alameda and Chamber-
lain Streets; thence northwesterly along the oenterline of
Alameda Street to its intersection with Louisiana Avenue, thaee
westerly along the centerline of Louisiana Avenue to the inter-
section of South Staples Street; thence northerly along the
centerline of South Staples Street to the intersection of 18th
Street; thence northwesterly along the centerline of 18th Street
to its intersection with Naples Street; thence northeasterly
along the centerline of Naples Street to its intersection with
South Staples Street; thence northeasterly along the centerline
of South Staples to its intersection with Craig Avenue; thence
easterly along the centerline_ of Craig Avenue to its inter-
section wit: Ocean Drin;(thence due east into the bay to the
east City Limits line, south along the east City Limits
line to h point due east of the intersection of Ocean Drive
and Naples Street; thence along the center a of Naples Street
to its intersection with Santa Fe Street; thence southeasterly
along the centerline of Santa Fe Street o its intersection
with Sunset Street; thence southwesterly along the centerline
of Sunset to its intersection with lawnview Street; thence
southesaterly along the centerline of Iawnview Street to its
intersection with Chamberlain Street; thence southwesterly along
the centerline of Chamberlain Street to the centerline of Alameda
and the point of beginning.

City Ward No. 5 shall comprise and shall include that
area bounded as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at the intersection of Baldwin Boulevard :.and
Naples Street; thence northwesterly along the centerline of Bald-
win Boulevard to Port Avenue; thence northerly along the center-
line of Port Avenue to its intersection with the Tex -Max Railroad; ,
thence easterly along the centerline of the Tex -Mex Railroad to
its intersection with South Staples Street; thence southerly
along the centerline of South Staples Street to its intersection
with Naples Street; thence southwesterly along Naples Street
to the intersection of Baldwin Boulevard and the point of be-
ginning.
City Ward No. 6 shall comprise and shall include that
area bounded as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at the intersection of South Port Avenue
and the northeast boundary line of lots 102 11, and 12, Section
G, Pa.isley's Subdivision of the Hoffman Tract; thence in a
northwesterly direction with the northeast boundary line of lots
10, 11, and 12, Section G, Paisley's Subdivision of the Hoffman
Tract and its continuation to its intersection with the south
extension of the centerline of Airport Road; thence in a northerly
direction with the south extension of the centerline of Airport
Road to its intersection with the south boundary line of Old
Brownsville Road; thence southwesterly along the southeastern
boundary of Old Brownsville Road to its intersection with the
south boundary line of Block 16 of the Russell Farm Blocks; thence
along the south boundary line of Block 16 to the southwest corner
of Block 16; thence north along the west line of Block 16 and
Block 16, Russell Farm Blocks to the south right -of -way line of
State Highway 44 (Agnes Street); thence east along the south
right -of -way line of Highway 44 (Agnes Street) to its intersec-
tion with the east boundary line of Baldwin Boulevard; thence
in a northerly and northwestern direction with the east boundary '
line of Baldwin Boulevard to the interesection of the centerline
of Agnes Street; thence easterly along the centerline of Agnes
Street to its intersection with Port Avenue; thence southerly
along the centerline of Port Avenue to its intersection with the
northeast boundary line of lots 10, 11, and 22, Section G, Pais-
ley's Subdivision of the Hoffman Tract and the point of beginning.
City Ward No. 7 shall comprise and shall include that
area bounded as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at a point at the intersection of the cefiter-
line of Naples Street and Ocean Drive; thence due east into the
bay to an intersection with the east City Limits line; thence
south along the east City Limits line to the southeast corner
of the original City Limits as surveyed by C.H.F. V.Blucher in
August, 1863; thence in a southeasterly direction to a point
that is due north from the most easterly point of the west shore-
line of Oso Creek at mean low tide; thence south one mile to the most
easterly point in the west shoreline of Oso Creek at mean low
tide; thence with the meanders of the west shoreline of Oso Creek
at mean low tide to its intersection with the southwestern boun
dary line of Section 16 of the Flour Bluff and Encinal Farm and
Garden Tracts; thence in a northwesterly direction with the
southwestern boundary line of suction 16 and 14 of the Flour
Bluff and Encinal Farm and Garden Tracts, same being the centerline
of Alameda Street and its southerly extension to its intersec-
tion with the southeast boundary line of lot 5, Section La of

the Flour Bluff and Encinal Farm and Garden Tracts; same being
in the centerline of Alameda Street; thence in a southwesterly
direction with the southeast boundary line of lot 5, Section
I/+, Flour Bluff and Encinal Farm and Garden Tracts to the extreme
south corner of said block; thence in a northwesterly direction
with the southwest boundary line of Block 5 to the extreme west
corner of said block 5; thence in a northeasterly direction withthe
northwest boundary line of lot 5, Section J.Q., Flour Bluff and En-
cinal Farm and Garden Tracts to the extreme north corner of said
lot 5, same being in the centerline of Alameda Street; thence north-
westerly along the centerline of Alameda Street to its intersection
with the southeast line of Unit I of Windsor Perk; thence south-
westerly with the southeast line of Unit I, Windsor Park to the
southwest line of Windsor Park; thence northeasterly with the south-
west line of Windsor Park to the northwest line of said Windsor Park;
thence northeasterly with the northwest line to its intersection
with the centerline of Alameda Street; thence in a northwesterly
direction with the centerline of Alameda Street and its extension
to its intersection with a line that is parallel to and 180 -feet
southeast of the centerline of Everhart Road; thence in a south-
westerly direction parallel to and 180 feet southeast of the center-
line of Everhart Road to its intersection with the centerline of
South Staples Street; - thence northwesterly along the centerline of
South Staples Street�o its intersection with the centerline of
Louisiana Avenue; thence northeasterly along the centerline of Louis -
iana Avenue to its intersection with Alameda Street; thence south-
easterly along the centerline of Alameda Street to its intersection
with Chamberlain Street, thence northeasterly along the centerline
of Chamberlain Street to its intersection with Lawnview; thence
northwesterly along the centerline of Lawnview Street to its inter-
section with Sunset; thence northeasterly along the centerline of
Sunset to its intersection with Santa Fe; thence northwesterly
along the centerline of Santa Fe Street to its intersection with
Naples Street; thence northeasterly along the centerline of Naples
Street to its intersection with Ocean Drive and the point of beginning.
City Ward No. 8 shall comprise and shall include that
area bounded as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at the intersection of South Staples Street
and a line 180 feet southeast of the centerline of Everhart Road; f,
thence in a southwesterly direction parallel to and 180 feet south-
east of the centerline of Everhart Road to its intersection with
a line that is parallel to and 180 feet southwest of the centerline
of Gollihar Road; thence in a northwesterly direction along a line
parallel to and 180 feet southwest of the centerline of Gollihar
Road to a point 15 feet northwest of and at right angles to the
center line of Kostoryz Road; thence southwesterly along a line
15 feet from and parallel to the centerline of Kostoryz Road a
distance of 2455.63 feet to the southeast corner of Southside IV
Addition; thence northwesterly along the southwest line of said
Southside Addition to the southwest corner of said addition;
thence northeasterly along the northwest line of said addition
to the northwest corner of said addition; thence southeasterly
along the northeast line of said Southeide IV to the northeast corner
of said addition; thence northeasterly along a line 20 feet from
and parallel to the centerline of Kostoryz Road a distance of 815.7
feet to a point 180 feet southwest of the centerline of Gollihar
Road; thence in a northwesterly direction along a line parallel -bD
and 180 feet southwest of the centerline of Gollihar Road to a point
665.7 feet southeast of the common corner of lots 11, 12, 13 and
24, Section C of the Paisleys Subdivision of the Hoffman Tract,
same point being a corner of Rosemary Place Addition; thence around
the Limits of Rosemary Addition to a point 180 feet from the centerline
of Gollihar Road; thence in a southwesterly direction along a line
parallel to and 180 feet southwest of the centerline of Gollihar

Road and its extension to a point in the east property line of
lot 16, Section 5, Range IX of the Gugenheim and Cohn Farm Lots;
thence in a northerly direction with the east property line
of lots 16, 9, and 8, Section 5, Range IX, Gugenheim slid Cohn
Farm Lots to the south boundary line of the Municipal Airport
of Corpus Christi, Texas; thence in a westerly direction along
the south line of the Municipal Airport to its intersection
with the south boundary line of Old Brownsville Road.; thence
northeasterly along the south boundary line of Old Brownsville
Road to its intersectionwitb the centerline of Airport Road
extended; thence southerly along the extension of the center-
line of Airport R.o,,d to its intersection with the extension
of the northeast boundary line of lots 10, 11, and 12, Section
G, Paisleyts Subdivision of the Hoffman Tract; thence southeasterly
along the extension of and the northeast boundary line of lots
10, 11, and 12, Section G, Paisley's Subdivision of the Hoffman
Tract, to its intersection with Port Avenue-',thence northerly
along tkr centerline of,Port Avenue to its 'Sntersection with
Baldwin Boulevard; thence southeasterly along the centerline
of Baldwin Boulevard to its intersection with 18th Street;
thence southeasterly along the centerline of 18th Street to
its intersection with South Staples; thence southeasterly along

with a line 180 feet southeast of and parallel to the center-
line of Everhart Road and the place of beginning.

SECTION 2. That all ordinances and pests of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed and that Ordinance No.
2242 recorded in Volume 16, Page 221, Ordinance and Resolution
Records of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is hereby ex-
pressly repealed.
SECTION 3. The fact that a new division of wards
is required for the City of Corpus Christi in order to insure
better voting facilities in future elections creates a public
emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the sus-
pension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution
shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that
such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several
meetings of the City Council, and the V yor having declared
that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and
having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that
this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction
and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after
its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
