HomeMy WebLinkAbout02881 ORD - 09/26/1949nm. n. ssuuei-s uua -•� •r September 25, 1950 5 copies AN ORDINANCE N0, fl BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, ADOPTING VOTING MACHINES FOR USE IN THE OCTOBER 21, 1950, ELECTION AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WBE=S, the City of Corpus Christi has called an election on October 21, 1950, for the purpose of determining whether or not a contract should be entered into between the City of Corpus Christi and the Lower Nueces River Supply District for the exploration and development of an underground source of water supply to be produced from subterranean geological formations through wells and for the purpose of annexing certain territories adjoining the City of Corpus Christi, and WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court of Nueces County in special session on June 30, 1950, has adopted, for experimental use, voting machines as they may be available for Nueces County; NOTE, TBEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That voting machines are hereby adopted for use in an election to be held in the City of Corpus Christi on October 21, 1950- SECTION 2. That voting machines shall be used for the casting of absentee votes at said election. SECTION 3. The fact that it is necessary to adopt said voting machines for use in the aforesaid election and the great public importance of such election creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule providing that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the day it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings o£ the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested that said Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally -2- on the day it is introduced and that it take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED. D. 1950- MAIY OR—' THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS ac�� &�'�t47 Z pusChristi, Texas 1949 TO THE AM ERA OF ME CITY COUNCIL Corpus Chri sti, Texas Gentlemen: For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore- going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Counoil, I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Counoil.
