AN ORDINANCE
APPROPRIATING $ 8914.00 TO BE PAID AS CON-
SIDERATION FOR. T12 C iSTRUCTION OF THE NEW CITY
HALL BUILDING ON SHOR,:LINE F30ULEVARD IN TILE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, OUT OF FUND NO. 296
IMPROVEM -NT BONDS 1950 CONSTRUCTION FUND (CITY
NALL ); AUTHORMONG AND DIRECTING T_HE CITY 12LEAGER
FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO EXECUTE A
CONTRACT WITH BRASELTON' CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OF
CORPUS CI3RISTI, TMaS, LOX BIDDER, FOR SUCH
CONSTRUCTION; SAID CONTRACT DOCTPLMITTS, PL1NS AND
SPECIFICATIQi;S BEING DUDE A PART HEREOF 13Y
REFIM17CE; AND DECLARING All EI,MIGENCY.
JlIEMI AS, Certain improvements have been determined to be
necessary, and
WIiIREAS, There is needed the sum of X344,894.00
for the construction of such new City Hall Building, and
TII-IEREAS, There is available in Fund No. 296 Improvement
Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (City Hall) said amount needed for
such construction; and
hEREAS, Bids have been received, considered, and an
award made for the most advantageous bid to the City of Corpus
Christi, and it is now necessary to make suc1: appropriation and
to authorize the ozecution of a contract in accordance with said
award;
NON, TIM-12FORE, BE IT ORDA11PED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TMiS:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated out of Fund
No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (City Hall) the sum
of X344.894.00 , which amount is to be paid according to the
terms of the contract described in Section 2 hereof.
SECTION 2. That the City Mmager is hereby authorized
and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Corpus
Christi a contract for donstriiction of the new City---Hall Building
on Shoreline Boulevard in Corpus Christi, Texas, with Braselton
Construction Company, which contract has been awarded said Braseltou
Construction Company in accordance with plans and specifications
and the contract documents on file in the office of the City
Secretary, all incorporated herein and made a part hereof by
reference, and according to the bid of 3raselton Construction
Company, opened on the 19th day of Set;tember, A. D. 1950, said
bid being the most advantageous, and loviest, to the City of Corpus
Christi, Texas.
S]CTION j. The necessity for commencement of the con-
struction of said building at once in accordance with plans here-
tofore enacted to provide adequate facilities for the housing of
the offices of the City to alleviate congestion in said City
offices by reason of the rapid gr with and development of the City
and to provide space for the possible future expansion of said
City offices creates a public emergency and imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of
its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be
read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Liayor,
having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, requesting
that such Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be
passed finally on tho date of its introduction and take effect
and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT

for the contract, agreement, obligation, or expenditure contemplated
in the above and foregoing Ordinance is in the Treasury of the City
of Corpus Christi to the credit of No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950
Conn+ruotinn Fun (City Hall)
Fund from which it is proposed to be drawn, and such money is not
appropriated for any other purpose.

Gentlemen;
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at .three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
