HomeMy WebLinkAbout02886 ORD - 10/03/1950l0 2 0 AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $32,711.00 TO BE PAID AS CONSIDER - IT EMN FOR TBE INSTALLATION OF ELEVATORS IN THE NEW CITY HALL BUILDING ON SHORELINE BOULEVARD IN THE CITY _07-MR-PUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, OUT OF FUND NO. 296 IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1950 CONSTRUCTION FUND (CITY HALL ,AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH WESTINGHOUSE EDECTRM :_ CORPORATION OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, ffV BIDDER, FOR SUCH INSTALLATION; SAID CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, PLANS, AND SPECIFICATIONS BEING MADE A PART HERE- OF BY REFERENCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the installation of elevators in the new City Hall Building is necessary, and WHEREAS, There is needed the sum of $32,711.00 for the installation of said elevators, and MUMS, There is available in Fund No. 296 Improve- ment Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (City Hall) said amount needed for such installation; and WHEREAS, Bids have been received, considered, and an award made for the most advantageous bid to the City of Corpus Christi, and it is now necessary to make such appropriation and to authorize the execution of a contract in accordance with said award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS; SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated out of Fund No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (City Hall) the sum of $32,711.00, which amount is to be paid according to the terms of the contract described in Section 2 hereof. SECTION 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi a contract for the installation of elevators in the new City Hall Building on Shoreline Boulevard in the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which contract has been awarded said Westinghouse Electric Corporation in accordance with plans and specifications and the contract docu- ments on file in the office of the City Secretary, all incorporated herein and made a part hereof by reference, and according to the bid of said Westinghouse Electric Corporation, opened on the 19th day of September, A.D. 1950, said bid being the most advantageous, and lowest, to the City of Corpus Christi. SECTION 3. The need to appropriate said amount and to authorize the execution of said contract in order to facilitate the completion of the new City Ball, said contract being in conjunction with other contracts on said City Full, creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed and approved finally on the day it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, requesting the suspension of said Charter rule, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the day it is introduced and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED. CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas Gentlemen: For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore - going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and. that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
