AN ORDINANCE
APPROPRIATING MONEY FROM FUND NO. 296 IMPROVEMENT
BONDS 1950 CONSTRUCTION FUND (STREET TRAFFIC CON-
TROL SYSTEM) to COVER THE COST OF MATERIAIS FOR
STRIPING AND BEFLECTORIZING CERTAIN STREETS IN THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND PROCESSING FOR INSTALLA-
TION STREET TRAFFIC SIGNS AS MORE FULLY DESCRIBED
IN THE ESTIMATE ATTACHED HERETO AND MADE A PART
HEREOF, SAID MATERIALS TO BE PURCHASED AS NEEDED
UP TO AND INCLUDING THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $5,000.00;
SAID WORK TO BE DONE BY CITY FORCES; AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, there is needed $5,000.00, fractions of which
amount are to be used as needed, for the purchase of materials
necessary for striping and reflectorizing certain streets in
the City of Corpus Christi and processing for installation cer-
tain street traffic signs; and,
WHEREAS, There are sufficient funds available for
such appropriation in Fund No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Con-
struction Fund (Street Traffic Control System); and
WHEREAS, said work is to be done by City forces;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. There is hereby appropriated out of Fund
No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Street Traffic
Control System) the amount of $5,000.00, fractions of which
amount are to be used as needed, to cover the cost of materials
necessary for striping and reflectorizing certain streets in
the City of Corpus Christi and processing for installation cer-
tain street traffic signs, as more fully described in the esti-
mate attached hereto and made a part hereof, said work to be
done by City forces.
SECTION 2. The Director of Public Works is directed
and authorized to proceed with the aforesaid work as described
in Section 1 hereof.

SECTION 3. The necessity for commencement of the
aforesaid project for street markings to protect the safety
and general welfare of its citizenry creates a public emer-
gency and imperative public necessity requiring the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the day it is introduced and that such
ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meet-
ings of the City Council, and the Mayor, declaring such emer-
gency and necessity to exist, requesting that such Charter
rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally
on the day it is introduced and take effect and be in full
force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY
SO MUINED.

Subject._ Materials for Street Traffic Improvement (Street Marking, etc.)
It is requested that the Council authorize the following Street
Traffic Improvement jobs, all of which are to be done by City forces:
1. Stripe and reflectori,ze approximately 45 miles of city streets,
estimated cost per mile $75.60 Total - $3,402.00
2. Process, ready for installation, 1000 street traffic signs
at approximately $1.60 each Total - 1,598.00
Grand Total - $5,000.00
The above appropriation should be made from Account No. 296, bond
funds, for Street Traffic Control.

Gentlemen:
For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.

for the contract, agreement, obligation, or expenditure contemplated
in the above and foregoing Ordinance is in the Treasury of the City
of Corpus Christi to the credit of No. 296, IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1950
CONSTRUCTION FUND (STREET TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM)
Fund from which it is proposed to be drawn, and such money is not
appropriated for any other purpose.
