HomeMy WebLinkAbout02981 ORD - 01/23/1951AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT FOR AND ON BEHAIF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI WITH BELDENFELS BROTHERS-FOR PAVING OF WATER STREET (OCEAN DRIVE) FROM FURMAN AVENUE 70_BUFORD STREET, HANCOCK AVENUE FROM WATER STREET (OCEAN DRIVE) M SECOND STREET AND.PARK AVENUE EXTENSION FROM CHAPARRAL STREET TO EAST SHORELINE DRIVE; APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF $40,279,27, LESS ASSESS -. NENTS, TOGETHER WITH THE FURTHER. SUM OF $2,013.96 FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES, FROM NO. 296 IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1950 CONSTRUCTION FUND (STREET lEiPROVEMENTS); AUTHORIZING PAY - MENT UNDER SAID CONTRACT; AND DECLARINO AN 12MIGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi to execute a Contract with Heldenfels. Brothers for the paving of Water Street (Ocean Drive) f rom Furman Avenue to Buford Street, Hancock Avenue from Water Street (Ocean Drive) to Second Street and Park Avenue Extension from Chaparral Street to East Shoreline Drive, which contract has been awarded to said Heldenfels Brothers in accord- ance with the plans, specifications and contract documents on file in the City Secretary's office, and according to the Bid of the said Heldenfels Brothers being the lowest and most advantageous to the City. SECTION 2. That the sum of Forty Thousand Two Hundred Seventy -nine Dollars and Twenty seven Cents (040,279.27) Dollars, less any amounts to be paid by abutting property owners by virtue of special assessments, being the amount to be paid under said contract mentioned:i.n Section 1 hereof, together with the further sum of Two Thousand Thirteen Dollars and Ninety-six Cents ($2,013,96) for engineering services, are hereby appropriated and shall be paid from Noe 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Street Improvements). SECTION 3. The necessity for adequate street paving within the City limits in order to protect the general welfare of its citizens creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the:City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally .y on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its Passage, IT 25 ACCORDUDLY so ORDA=D .PASSED AND APPROVED this 23rd day of January, A.
