HomeMy WebLinkAbout02989 ORD - 02/06/1951AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE CREATING AND RECREATING POSITIONS, CUSSES, CLASSIFICATIONS AND SALARIES PAYABLE TO THE HOLDERS OF SUCH POSITIONS IN THE POLICE DIVI- SION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OF - TEE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; ABOLISHING ALL POSITIONS, CLASSIFICATIONS AND SALARIES OR SALARY RANGES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH HERETOFORE EXISTING IN SUCH DIVISION; CONTAINING ABE- PEALIdG OLAUS6; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY -, AND BEING ORDINANCE NO. 2655, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON THE 6th DAY OF DECEMBER, 1949, BY AMENDING SECTION 1 OF SAID ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR SALARY INCREASES FOR ALL CLASSIFICATIONS TO BECOME EFFECTIVE ON AND AFTER FEBRUARY 16, 1951:; AND L- GLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI: Section 1: That Section 1 of said Ordinance No. 2655 be amended so as to read hereafter as follows: "Section 1: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances creating, changing or increasing positions, classifications and salaries or salary ranges in the Folios Division of the City of Corpus Christi be and the same are hereby merg- ed in this ordinance so that all positions, classifications and salaries or salary ranges in conflict herewith are hereby expressly abolished and the following positions, classes, classifications and salaries are hereby created and recreated in said Division, so that hereafter the following and none other shall exist therein: CLASS A UNIFORMED AND DETECTIVE CLASS - POLICE SERVICE Humber of Classification Salary Positions (Class Title) Per Month Min. Section 3: That other than as amended herein said Ordinance No. 2655 shall remain in full force and effect. Section L,r The fact that the cost of living has increased greatly in the past several months oreates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the Oity Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and impera- tive necessity exiat, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this Ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS - ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED. J MAYOR ATTEST: City of Corpus Christi, Texas. city Secretary APPROVED AS TO LEGAL FOffid: City Attor Corpus Christi, Texas February & , 1951 TO THE A ZMW OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas Gentlemen: For the reasons set forth in the urgency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a public urgency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or re- quirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed final - ly on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
