HomeMy WebLinkAbout02997 ORD - 02/20/1951AN ORDINANCE , DIVIDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, INTO THIRTY -SEVEN (37) ELECTION PRECINCTS FOR AND IN WHICH ALL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS SHALL HEREAFTER BE HELD IN AND FOR SAID CITY AND SA LtE SHALL BE KNOWN AS ELECTION PRECINCTS NUMBS ONE (1), TWO (2), THREE (3), 1- (4), FIVE (5), SIX (6), SEVEN (7), EIGHT (8), SEVENTEEN (17), TWENTY (20), TffMY- ONE (21), THIRTY (30), THIRTY -ONE (31), THIRTY- ' TWO (32), THIRTY -THREE (33), THIRTY -EIGHT (38), THIRTY -NINE (39), FORTY (!;0), FORTY -ONE (41), FORTY -TITO (42), FORTY -THREE 643), FORTY -FOUR (44), FORTY -FIVE (45), FORTY -SIX (46), FORTY -SEVEN (47), FORTY -EIGHT (48), FORTY -NINE (49), FIFTY (50), FIFTY -TM (52), FIFTY -THREE (53), FIFTY -SIX (56), FIFTY -SEVEN (57), FIFTY -EIGHT (58), FIFTY -NINE (59), SIXTY (60), SIXTY -= (61) AND su7y -TWO (62); REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND DECLARING AN E ERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is desirous of holding a general election on the first Tuesday of April, 1951; and, WHEREAS, it is necessary that the old voting precincts within the corporate limits of the City be changed in order to conform with the newly established City Limits and with the County voting precincts * located within the corporate limits of the City of Corpus Christi; and, WHEREAS, by virtue of the City Charter and the General Laws of the State of Texas the City Council is authorized to prescribe the procedure for calling and holding elections and defining voting pre- cincte; and, HHEREAS, the City Council did on the 20th day of February,, A. D. 1951, by Ordinance No. 2996 create and divide the City of Corpus Christi into thirty -seven (37) wards and there has been no action by the City Council since the passage of the Ordinance which divides the City of Corpus Christi into election precincts; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi is hereby divided into thirty -seven (37) election precincts within said City, within which respective precincts the legally qualified voters residing in said elec- tion precincts shall vote in all elections as provided by law and that said election precincts shall be defined, described and bounded as follows: �q9% (1) Election Precinct Number One (1) shall be composed of the first ward of said City as that ward is ' designated by metea and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (2) Election Precinct Number Two (2) shall be composed of the second ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 2th day of February, A. D. 1951• (3) Election Precinct Number Three (3) shall be composed of the third ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (4) Election Precinct Number Four (4) shall be composed of the fourth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (5) Election Precinct Number Five (5) shall be composed of the fifth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (6) Election Precinct Number Six (6) shall be composed of the sixth ward of said City as that ward is designated by =tea and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (7) Election Precinct Number Seven (7) shall be composed of the seventh ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (8) Election Precinct Number Eight (8) shall be composed of the eighth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (9) Election Precinct Number Seventeen (17) shall be composed of the seventeenth ward of said City as that ward is designated by sates and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 2)th day of February, A. D. 1951- (10) Election Precinct Number Twenty (20) shall be com- posed of the twentieth word of said City as that ward is designated by mates and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (11) Election Precinct Number Twenty -one (21) shall be oomposed of the twenty -first ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (2) (12) Election Precinct Number Thirty (30) shall be composed of the thirtieth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (13) Election Precinct Number Thirty -ofte (31) shall be composed of the thirty -first ward of said City as that Ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (14) Election Precinct Number Thirty -two (32) shall be composed of the thirty - second ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (15) Election Precinct Number Thirty -three (33) shall be composed of the thirty -third ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (16) Election Precinct Number Thirty -eight (38) shall be composed of the thirty - eighth ward of said City as that ward is designated by mates and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (17) Election Precinct Number Thirty -nine (39) shall be composed of the thirty -ninth ward of said City as that ward is designated by motes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed' and approved on the 20th day of February-, A. D. 1951. (18) Election Precinct Number Forty (40) shall be com- posed of the fortieth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed andepproved on the 27th day of February, A. D. 1951- (19) Election Precinct Number Forty -one (41) shall be composed of the f orty -first ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (20) Election Precinct Number Forty -two (42) shall be composed of the forty - second ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (21) Election Precinct Number Forty -three (43) shall be composed of the forty -third ward of said City as that ward is designated by hm;tes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed end approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (22) Election Precinct Number Forty -Four (44) shall be composed of the forty - fourth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (3) (23) Election Precinct Number Forty -five (45) shall be composed of the forty -fifth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (24) Election Precinct Number Forty -Six (46) shall be composed of the forty -sixth ward of said City as that ward is designated by motes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 2)th of February, A. D. 1951. (25) Election Precinct Number Forty -seven (47) shall be composed of the forty - seventh ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and ' fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (26) Election Precinct Number Forty -eight (48) shall be composed of the forty - eighth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the Wth day of February, A. D. 1951. (27) Election Precinct Number Forty -nine (49) shall be composed of the forty -ninth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (28) Election Precinct Number Fifty (50) shall be com- posed of the fiftieth ward of said City as that word is designated by hoetes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. , (29) Election Precinct Number Fifty- two,(52) shall be composed of the fifty - second ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (30) Election Precinct Number Fifty -three (53) shall be composed of the fifty -third ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fined by • ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (31) Election Precinct Number Fifty -six (56) shall be composed of the fifty -sixth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved an the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (32) Election Precinct Number Fifty -seven (57) shall be composed of the fifty- seventh ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. (34) Election Precinct Number Fifty -nine (59) shall ,be composed of the fifty -ninth ward of said City as that ward is designated by Lmetes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (35) Election Precinct Number Sixty (60) shall be composed or the sixtieth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951- (36) Election Precinct Number Sixty -one (61) shall be com- posed of the sixty -first ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. (37) Election Precinct Number Sixty -two (62) shall be com- posed of the sixty - second ward of said City as that ward is designated by =tea and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 20th day of February, A. D. 1951. SECTION 2. All other ordinances which have heretofore been passed and which have set out and established election precincts for the City of Corpus Christi are hereby repealed and Ordinance No. 2868 passed and approved by the City Council on the 12th day of September, 1950, is hereby expressly repealed. , SECTION 3. The fact that the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi deems it necessary that the City of Corpus Christi be divided into thirty -seven (37) election precincts in order to provide proper facilities for voting in the forthcoming general election and other elections to be held in the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, cre- ates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings'of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of T its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
