HomeMy WebLinkAbout03006 ORD - 04/10/1951AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL EIECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING THE MAYOR AND COMMISSIOSERS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI HELD OIQ THE Std DAY OF APRIL, 1951, AND DECLARING AN URGENCY. WHEREAS, heretofore on the 7th day of March, 1951, _ the Mayor of the City of Corpus Christi caused to be published a proclamation anno ncing the general election to be held on the 3rd day of April, 1951; and WHEREAS, Notice of said election was actually given as required by law and as directed in the said proclamation, as is shown by affidavit properly filed in the office of the City Secretary; and . WHEREAS, Said election was duly and legally held on the 3rd day of April, A.D. 1951, in conformity with the election laws of the State of Texas, and the results of said election has been certified and returned by the proper Judges and Clerks there- of, and WHEREAS, This Council has today considered the re- turns of said election held on the 3rd day of April, 1951; and WHEREAS, It appears to the Council and the Council so finds that the said election was in all respects lawfully held; and WHEREAS, It appears to the Council and the Council so finds that the City Secretary has tabulated the results of said election and certified such tabulation to the Council, and that such tabulation is correct; IT IS, THEREFORE, OFUDjED BY THE CITY COUNCIL CF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TE%A.Se SECTION 1. That the tabulation of votes cast in the general election held on the 3rd day of April, 1951, made and certified to by the City Secretary of the City of Corpus Christi, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof, y „ - be and the same is hereby adopted as the official tabulation of the votes cast at said election and that said tabulation be filed and recorded in the official records of the City of Corpus Christi as the official canvass of said election. SECTION 2. That the Said official canvass of the returns of said election reflects that Leslie Wasserman was " duly elected Mayor, and that Barney Cott, Jack DeForrest, Sydney Herndon, and George Lowman were duly elected Commissioners of the City of Corpus Christi for the ensuing two years and that they and each of them are hereby declared so elected. SECTION 3. The necessity of making an official canvass of votes cast in the aforesaid election and declaring the said results of said election creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such em- ergency and necessity to exist, requesting the suspension of said Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally ' on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO OTMAINED.
