HomeMy WebLinkAbout03030 ORD - 05/08/1951AN ORDINANCE DIVIDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEY.AS INTO EIGHT (8) ELECTION PRECINCTS FOR AND IN WHICH ALL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS SHALL HEREAFTER BE HELD IN AND FOR SAID CITY AND SAME SHALL HE KN0WN AS ELECTION PRECINCTS NUMBERS ONE (1), TWO (2) , THREE (3), FOUR (4), FIVE (5), SIR (6), SEVEN (7), AND EIGHT (8); REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDI- NANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND DECLARING AN EDERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is desirous of calling an election to authorize the issuance of general obligation tax bonds of said City in the approximate amount of $1,600,000.00; and WHEREAS, by virtue of the City Charter and the General Laws of the State of Texas the City Council is authorized to prescribe the pro- cedure for calling and holding elections and defining voting precincts; and WHEREAS, The City Council did on the _ day of , A. D. 1951, by Ordinance No, create and divide the City of Corpus Christi into eight (8) wards and there has been no action by the City Council since the passage of the Ordinance which divides the City of Corpus Christi into election precincts; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAII4ED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christ is hereby divided into eight (8) election precincts within said City, within which respective precincts the legally qualified voters residing in said election precincts shall mte in all elections as provided by law and that said election precincts shall be defined, described and bounded as follows: (1) Election Precinct Number One (1) shall be composed of the first ward of said City as that wand is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordi- nance duly passed and approved on the 8th day of May, 1951. (2) Election Precinct Number Two (2) shall be composed of the second ward of said City as that ward is de- signated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 8th day of May, 1951. (3) Election Precinct Number Three (3) shall be composed of the third ward of said City as that ward is desig- nated by metes and bounds and fixed -by ordinance duly passed and approved on the Sth day of May, 1951, .I-, (4) Election Precinct Number Four (4) shall be composed of the fourth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and _ approved on the 8th day of May, 1951. (5) Election Precinct Number Five (5) shall be composed of the fifth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 8th day of May, 1951. (6) Election Precinct Number Six (6) shall be composed of the sixth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 8th day of May, 1951. (7) Election Precinct Number Seven (7) shall be composed of the seventh ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 8th day of rte, 1951. (8) Election Precinct Number Eight (8) shall be composed of the eighth ward of said City as that ward is designated by metes and bounds and fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 8th day of Mqq, 1951. SECTION 2. All other ordinances which have heretofore been passed and which have set out and established election precincts for the City of Corpus Christi are hereby repealed and Ordinance No. 2997 passed and approved by the City Council on the 20th day of February, 1951, is hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 3. The fact that the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi deems it necessary hat the City of Corpus Christi be divided into eight (8) election precincts in order to provide proper facilities for voting in the forthcoming election and other elections to be held in the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and imperative - necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT lS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED. PASSED AHD APPROVED this Y day of MAYQR City of Corpus Christi, Texas SST: City Secretary AS MALFORM: City Attorney — 3 — • Corpus Christi, Tome . 1950 TO THE MMM OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas Gentlemen: For the reasons set forth in the emergency olause of the fore- going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at.three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it in introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
