AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED IIAN ORDINANCE CREATING
AND RECREATING POSITIONS, CLASSES, CLASSIFICATIONS AND
SALARIES PAYABLE TO TEE HOLDERS OF SUCH POSITIONS IN
THE POLICE DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI;. ABOLISHING ALL POSITIONS,
CLASSIFICATIONS AMID SALARIES, OR SALARY RANGES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH HERETOFORE EXISTING IN SUCH DIVISION; CONTAIN-
ING A REPEALING CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EMUMNCY", .
AND BEING ORDINANCE #2959 PASSED AMID APPROVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL-ON THE 6TH DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1951, BY AMEND-
ING SECTION I OF SAID ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR SALARY
INCREASES FOR ALL CLASSIFICATIONS; AMID AMENDING AN
ORDINANCE ENTITLED uAN ORDINANCE CREATING AND RECREATING
POSITIONS, CLASSES, CLASSIFICATIONS AND SALARIES PAYABLE
TO THE HOLDERS OF SUCH POSITIONS IN THE FIRE DIVISION OF
THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI; ABOLISHING ALL POSITIONS, CLASSIFICATIONS AMID
SALARIES OR SALARY RANGES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH HERETOFORE
EXISTING IN SUCH DIVISION; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCYn, AND BEING ORDINANCE #3059,
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE.CITY COUNCIL ON THE 5TH DAY OF
JUNE, 1951, BY AMENDING SECTION I OF SAID ORDINANCE TO
PROVIDE FOR SALARY INCREASES.FOR ALL CLASSIFICATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR THE AMEMIDMT; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI:
. . Section 1: That Section 1 of said ordinance #2989 be amended
so as to read hereafter as follows: "Section 1: That all ordinances or
parts of ordinances creati
p ng, changing or increasing positions, classifica-
tions and salaries or salary ranges in the Folios Division of the Department
of Public Safety of the City of Corpus Christi be and the same are hereby
merged in this ordinance so that all positions, classifications and salaries
or salary ranges in conflict herewith are hereby expressly abolished and the
following positions,, classes, classifications and salaries are hereby created
and recreated in said Division so that hereafter the following and none other
shall exist therein:

"All officers assigned to duty in the Detective Division where
no uniform allowance is being paid shall receive $10.00 per month clothing
allowance in addition to their base pay.11
Section 2: That Section l of said ordinance #3059 be amended
so as to read hereafter as follows: f'Section 1: That all ordinances or
parts of ordinances creating, changing or increasing positions, classifica-
tions and salaries or salary ranges in the Fire Division of the Department
of Public Safety of the City of Corpus Christi be and the same are hereby
merged in this ordinance so that all positions, classifications, salaries
or salary ranges in conflict herewith are hereby expressly abolished and
the following positions, classes, classifications, reclassifications and
salaries are hereby created and recreated in said Division, so that here-
after the following and none other shall exist therein:

The titles in parenthesis are the equivalent positions in Classes
D, E and F.
"All members of the Fire Division of Grade 2 assigned to duty as
Regular Drivers, Operators, Inspectors or Mechanic Helpers draw not less
than $6.00 per month additional compensation as "specialist pay" during
such periods of time as they are serving in such capacity."
Section 3: That other than as amended herein, said Ordinances No.
2989 and 3059 shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 4: That this Ordinance shall become effective on and
after February 1, 1952.
Section 5: The fact that the cast of living has increased greatly
in the past several months, creates a public emergency and public imperative
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such
ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City
Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and impera-
tive necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended,
and that this Ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and
take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT
IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and
that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at -three meetings of the
City Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter
rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
