HomeMy WebLinkAbout03388 ORD - 01/27/1953AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $752,500.00 TO BE PAID AS CON- SIDERATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MUNI- CIPAL AUDITORIUM ON SHORELINE BOULEVARD IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, OUT OF NO. 296 IMPROVEMENT BONDS, 1950 CONSTRUCTION FUND (MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM); AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH J. A. WALSH, CONTRACTOR AND LOW BIDDER FOR SUCH CONSTRUCTION; SAID CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS BEING MADE A PART HEREOF BY REFERENCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS,. Certain improvements have been determined to be necessary; and WHEREAS. There is needed the sum of $752,500.00 for the construction of such Municipal Auditorium; and WHEREAS, There is available in No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Municipal Auditorium) said amount needed for such construction; and WHEREAS, Bids have been received, considered, and an award made for the most advantageous bid to the City of Corpus Christi, and it is now necessary to make such appropriation and to authorize the execution of a contract in accordance with said award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated out of No. 296 Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Municipal Auditorium) the sum of $752,500.00, said amount being the base bid of $759,000.00 less Alternate No. 10 — substitution of metal deck over Auditorium in lieu of precast concrete deck in the amount of $6,500.00, which amount of $752,500.00 is to be paid according to the terms of the contract described in Section 2 hereof. SECTION 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi a contract 33ff for construction and site work necessary in the erection of the Municipal Auditorium on Shoreline Boulevard in Corpus Christi, Texas, with J. A. Walsh, contractor, which contract has been awarded said J. A. Walsh, contractor, in accordance with plans and specifications and the contract documents on file in the office of the City Secretary, all incorporated herein and made a part hereof by reference, and according to the bid of J. A. Walsh, contractor, opened on the 20th day of January, A. D. 1953, said bid being the most ad- vantageous, and Iowest, to the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. SECTION 3. The necessity for commencement of the construc- tion of said municipal auditorium at once in accordance with plans hereto-, fore enacted to provide more adequate auditorium facilities for the use of the citizens of Corpus Christi creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordi- nance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, requesting that such Charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
