APPROPRIATING FROM NO. 291 IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1952
CONSTRUCTION FUND (PARK IMPROVEMENTS AND CONSTRUC-
TION) THE SUM OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00),
TO BE PAID AS THE PURCHASE PRICE FOR 1.554 ACRES
OF LAND AS HEREIN DESCRIBED SAID $5,000.00 BEING
A PART OF A DESIGNATION OF $30,000.00 FROM THE
ABOVE —NAMED FUND FOR ACQUISITION OF A SITE FOR A
PARK AND RECREATION CENTER IN THE WESTERN PORTION
OF THE CITY. SAME BEING PASSED AND APPROVED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL ON DECEMBER 23, 1952, AND BEING
ORDINANCE NO. 3375; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING TJiE
CITY MANAGER FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY T4'AC-
QUIRE SAID 1.554 ACRES IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
BY GENERAL WARRANTY DEED FROM H. F. EKING, OWNER,
SAID 1.554 ACRES BEING A PORTION OF THE TRACT TO
BE ACQUIRED AND DEVELOPED AS THE SITE FOR THE WEST
SIDE RECREATION CENTER; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING
THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL INSTRUMENTS AND TO
DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY AND REQUISITE TO SUCH PUR-
CHASE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, It has been recommended by the Park and Recreation Board
of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, as reflected by the Minutes of a
special meeting held on January 23, 1953, that negotiations be made to
acquire 1.554 acres of land in the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, same
being mote particularly described herein, as a part of the permanent park
improvements of said City; and
WHEREAS, H. F. Ewing is the owner of said 1.554 acres of land
and has indicated that he is willing to convey same to the City for the
sum of $5,000.00; and
WHEREAS, It is determined by the City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi that the purchase of same is proper and desirable;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated from No. 291
Improvement Bonds 1952 Construction Fund (Park Improvements and Construc-
tion) the sum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to be paid as the purchase
price for 1.554 acres of land as herein described, said $5,000.00 being
a part of a designation of $30,000.00 from No. 291 Improvement Bonds 1952
Construction Fund (Park Improvements and Construction) for acquisition of

a site for a park and recreation center in the western portion of the
City, same being passed and approved by the City Council on December 23,
1952 and being Ordinance No. 3375.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized
and directed for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, to ac-
quire,as a portion of the tract to be acquired and developed as the site
for the West Side Recreation Center, the following described tract of land:
A tract of land out of Lots 5 and 6, Block 2 of the
Woodlawn Addition to the City of Corpus Christi as
shown by Map recorded in Volume 4, page 5 of the Map
Records of Nueces County, Texas, and being described
in deed to H. F. Ewing and Rose A. Ewing recorded in
Volume 432, pages 587 and 589 of the Deed Records of
Nueces County, Texas more particularly described by
metes and bounds as follows:
Beginning at a point, the most easterly corner of Lot
6, Block 2 of said Woodlawn Addition, being also the
most southerly comer of Lot 7, Block 2 of said Wood—
lawn Addition, for a corner of this tract;
THENCE S 300 -00' W along the southeast boundary line
of said Lots 5 and 6, a distance of 198 feet to a point,
the most southerly corner of said 5 and the most easter-
ly corner of Lot 1, Block 2 of said Woodlawn Addition
for a corner of this tract;
THENCE N 580 -05' W along the southeast boundary line of
said Lot 5 a distance of 307.80 feet to a point for a
corner of this tract;
THENCE N 300 -00' E a distance of 74 feet to a point for
a corner of this tract;
THENCE N 580 -05' W a distance of 135 feet to a point in
the southeast boundary line of Erwin Avenue for a corner
of this tract;
THENCE N 300 -00' E along the southeast boundary line of
Erwin Avenue a distance of 50 feet to a point for a
corner of this tract;
THENCE S 580 -051 E a distance of 135 feet to a point
for a corner of this tract;
THENCE N 300 -00' E a distance of 74 feet to a point in
the northeast boundary line of said Lot 6 for a corner
of this tract;
THENCE S 580 -051 E along the northeast boundary line of
said Lot 6 a distance of 307.80 feet to the place of
beginning.
Containing 1.554 acres of land.
by General Warranty Deed from the owner thereof, H. F. EWING, and to deliver
to said H. F. EWING upon his conveyance of same, the sum of $5,000.00 as
heretofore appropriated to be paid for that purpose in Section 1 hereof.

SECTION 3. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized
and directed to execute all instruments and to do all things necessary and
requisite to such acquisition.
SECTION 4. That the necessity of enlarging the Park System of
the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, by the aforesaid acquisition as a part
of the permanent park improvements of said city immediately, and in con-
formity with the growth and development of the City to the benefit of
the public health, safety and general welfare of its citizens, creates a
public emergency and an imperative public necessity, requiring the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolu-
tion shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the
Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested
the suspension of said Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full
force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY PASSED AND

in the above and foregoing Ordinance is in the Treasury of the City
of Corpus Christi to the credit of No. 291 IMPROVEMENT BONDS 1952
CONSTRUCTION FUND (PARK IMPROVEMENTS & CONSTRUCTION)
Fund from which it is proposed to be drawn, and such money is not
appropriated for any other purpose,
