AMENNDING ORDINANCE NO. 2578 PASSED Aid] APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
ON THE 16TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1949, COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE PLUMBING
CODE OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, AS THEREAFTER AMENDED
AND NOW IN EXISTENCE, BY AMENDING SECTION 921: VENTS AND VENTING.
TO INCLUDE ASBESTOS CEMENT VENT PIPE AND SETTING OUT SPECIFICATIONS
FOR INSTALLATION; BY AMENDING SECTION 911: SHOWER STALLS BY ADD-
ING AN ALTERNATE FOR USE IN ONE —STORY BUILDINGS; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, heretofore on the 16th day of August, 1949, the City Council of
the City of Corpus Christi, Texas passed finally an Ordinance numbered No.
2578 and entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE REGULATING PLUMBING AND GAS FITTING CONSTRUCTION,
REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, SAFEGUARDING THE HEALTH OF PERSONS,
THE SAFETY OF PROPERTY AND PROMOTING THE WELFARE OF THE PUBLIC;
CREATING THE SUPERVISORY BOARD OF PLUMBERS, DESIGNATING THE
MEMBERS THEREOF, AND PRESCRIBING THE POWERS AND DUTIES THEREOF;
PROVIDING THE REQUIRING OF A MASTER PLUMBERS SURETY BOND; PRO-
VIDING THE REQUIRING OF PERMITS FOR CERTAIN KINDS OF PLUMBING,
DRAINAGE, AND GAS FITTING AND THE INSPECTION OF SUCH PLUMBING,
DRAINAGE AND GAS FITTING WORK AND THE SCALE OF FESS FOR SUCH
INSPECTION; COMPELLING ALL BUILDINGS UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS
TO BE CONNECTED WITH THE PUBLIC SANITARY SEWERS AND PROVIDING
THE MANNER AND WAY IN WHICH PLUMBING AND GAS FITTING WORK SHALL
BE DONE AND THE KIND AND CLASS OF MATERIALS TO BE USED IN SUCH
WORK: PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE
AND REPEALING OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ORDINANCE;
PROVIDING FOR THE PUBLICATION OF THIS ORDINANCE; AM DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY. ";
and
WHEREAS, it is considered to the best interest of the City of Corpus Christi,
Texas, that said Ordinance No. 2578, as amended and now in existence, be amended
in the particulars hereinafter set forth;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Section 921 be amended to read as follows, the change
being underlined for clarification:
SECTION 921; VENTS AND VENTING. All building vent pipe shall be of
cast iron, brass, lead or copper of suitable size and in accordance
with regulations herein set forth. Asbestos cement vent pie, which
meets the standard weight specified for Transite Plumbing Vent Pipe
may be used in one-story residences as an optional material for dry
vents only,, but shall not be used for revent tie•ins When such pipe

is used, the joints shall be caulked in the manner prescribed for
cast iron pipe. and shall be installed in accordance with the
manufacturer s specifications and further provided the transite
pipe be not closer than forty—two-(42-9—inches from the floor line
of the dwelling. Each sewer connection shall have not less than
than one vent pipe for venitlation. All vents shall be carried
one (11) foot above the main roof of building and the upper end
of vent pipe shall not be within ten (10*) feet of or terminated
below any opening* dormer window, door, air intake, or such, in
any existing building.
and the same is hereby amended.
SECTION 2. That Section 911 of said Ordinance No. 2578 is hereby
amended and the same shall hereafter read as follows, the addition being
underlined for clarification:
SECTION 911: SHOWER STALLS. Shower stalls shall be considered
as a plumbing fixture, and shall be provided with a proper drain
and strainer. Lead pans shall be installed under all showers ex-
cept approved manufactured shower stalls and shower stalls on the

SECTION 3. The necessity for providing proper regulations regarding the
Plumbing Code for the City of Corpus Christi creates a public emergency and
public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that
no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced
and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings
of the City Council and the Mayor,having declared such emergency and necessity
to exist, requesting the suspension of said Charter rule, that this ordinance
be passed finally on the date of its introduction, and that it shall take effect
and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDING-
LY SO ORDAINED.

ORDINAMCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO.ORDINANCE DR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PA55ED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT 15 INTRODUCED„ AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RE-
SOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED AND THAT SUCH
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL;
1, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT
AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
