AN ORDINANCE No. 3579
SETTING UP, CREATING AND DIVIDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, INTO ELEVEN (11) WARDS; DESCRIBING THE BOUNDARIES
THEREOF; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES
THAT CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY TO CHANGE THE CITY WARDS OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI IN ORDER TO SECURE BETTER VOTING FACILITIES FOR THE
CITIZENS OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND IN ORDER TO CONFORM WITH THE GENERAL LAWS OF THE
STATE OF TEXAS REGARDING THE HOLDING OF ELECTIONS;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, AS ITS BOUNDARIES
NOW EXIST, IS HEREBY DIVIDED INTO ELEVEN (11) WARDS, AND THE METES. AND BOUNDS
OF SAID WARDS SHALL BE AS FOLLOWS, TO -WIT:
CITY WARD N0. 1 SHALL COMPRISE AND SHALL INCLUDE THAT AREA BOUNDED
AS FOLLOWS, TO -WIT:
BEGINNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE CENTERLINES OF SOUTH STAPLES
STREET AND CRAIG AVENUE; THENCE NORTHERLY ALONG THE CENTERLINE -OF SOUTH STAPLES
STREET TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH KINNEY AVENUE; THENCE WESTERLY ALONG THE CENTER-
LINE OF KINNEY AVENUE TO THE INTERSECTION OF BROWNLEE BOULEVARD; THENCE NORTHER-

SECTION 3. THAT THE FACT THAT A NEW DIVISION OF WARDS IS REQUIRED FOR
THE CITY IN ORDER TO INSURE BETTER VOTING FACILITIES IN FUTURE ELECTIONS CREATES
A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION
OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON
THE DATE IT 15 INTRODUCED AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT
THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED SUCH
PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THAT
SUCH CHARTER RULE BE SUSPENDED, AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE
DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND
AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
