AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER FOR AND ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO EXECUTE A
CCNTRACI WITH HELDENFELS BROTHERS FOR THE RESURFACING
OF 21.000 SQUARE YARDS OF PAVEMENT IN EDGEWATER TERRACE,
BEING PART OF PROJECT "PWS -7" - SURFACE TREATMENT - UNDER
THE FIVE YEAR IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM; APPROPRIATING THE SUM
OF $2.464.03 FROM NO. 220 STREET BOND DIPROVEMENT FUND
TO COMER THE COST OF SUCH RESURFACING; MAKING SAID CON-
TRACT A PART HEREOF BY REFERENCE; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CM COUNCIL OF THE CITY O1F CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed
to execute for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi a contract with
Heldenfels Brothers for the resurfacing of 21,000 square yards of pavement
in Edgewater Terrace, said project being part of Project "PWS -7" - Surface
treatment - under the five year improvement program, which contract has been
awarded in accordance with plans, specifications and contract documents on
file in the office of the City Secretary, for the contract price of $2,240.03,
all of which are made a part hereof by reference, and according to the bid of
Heldenfels Brothers, opened on the 24th day of March, 1954, the said bid of
Heldenfels Brothers being the lowest and most advantageous to the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated the sum of $2,464.03,
being $2,240.03 for the amount of the contract and $224.00 for engineering and
contingencies from No. 220 Street Bond Improvement Fund to cover the cost of
such resurfacing.
SECTION 3. The necessity for executing the above mentioned con-
tract in order that resurfacing may be completed at an early date because said
pavement is in a very poor condition, creates a public emergency and an im-
perative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that
no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its in-
troduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several
meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency
and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of said Charter rule
and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction
and that such ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from
and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY PASSED AND APPROVED, This the

THE FOREGOING-0- RDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY
EXIST FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON TkiE DATE IT IS
INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT
THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE, HEREBY 'REQUEST
THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS
ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
