SETTING UP, CREATING AND DIVIDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, INTO TWENTY -FOUR (24) WARDS; DESCRIBING THE BOUNDARIES
THEREOF; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES THAT
CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, It is deemed necessary to change the City Wards of the City
of Corpus Christi in order to secure better voting facilities for the citizens
of Corpus Christi and in order to conform with the general laws of the State of
Texas regarding the holding of elections.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, as its boundaries now
exist, is hereby divided into twenty -four (24) wards, and the metes and bounds
of said wards shall be as follows, to -wit:
City Ward No. 1 shall comprise and shall include that area bounded as
follows, to —Wit:
BEGINNING at the intersection of the centerline of Leopard. Street and the
centerline of Upper North Broadway; THENCE Northward along centerline of Upper North
Broadway to intersection with centerline of West Broadway; THENCE in a northwesterly
direction with the centerline of West Broadway to the intersection with the centerline
of Mainline track of Missouri Pacific Railway; THENCE with the centerline of said
Railway Track West to intersection with centerline of Nueces Bay Boulevard; THENCE
Northward with the centerline of Nueces Bay Boulevard and Northward extension
thereof to Southern bank of ship channel; THENCE Westward along Southern bank of
ship channel to City Limits Line; THENCE North with the original western City Limits
Line to the original northwest corner of the City Limits; THENCE East with the
o34;inal northern City Limits Line as surveyed by C.F.H. v. Blucher in August,
1883, to its intersection with the centerline of Avenue F extended of Brooklyn Sub-
division; THENCE in a northeasterly direction with the centerline of Avonue F to
the Southern shoreline of Nneces Bay; THENCE along the meanders of Nueces Bay to
the Southeast corner of State Survey No. 708, as shown on the General Land Office
Map of submerged lands, Nueces Bay and adjoining areas, dated October 15, 1946;
THENCE West with the North boundary line of Nueces County Navigation District Lands
to its intersection with the east line of State Survey No. 939; THENCE North with
theEast line of State Survey No. 939, crossing State Survey No. 688 with the North-
ward extension of State Survey No. 939's East line to the South line of State Survey
No. 686; THENCE East with the south line of State Survey No. 686 to the Southeast
corner of said Survey; THENCE North with the East line of State Survey No. 686 to
the Northeast corner of said survey, said northeast corner being a point on the
shoreline of Nueces Bay; THENCE in an easterly direction with the shoreline of
Nueces Bay to a point on said shoreline crossed by the East line of State Survey
No. 751; THENCE South with the east line of State Survey No. 751 and 753 to the
Shoreline of Naeces Bay; THENCE in a southwesterly, southeasterly,and northeasterly
direction along and with the shoreline of Nueces Bay and the shoreline of Corpus
Christi Bay to an intersection with the northeast line of State Lease No. 41; THENCE
Southeast along the northeast line of State Survey No. 41 to the easterly cor-
ner of said State Lease No. 41; THENCE in an northeasterly direction to the
northeast corner of State Lease No. 12; THENCE in a northwesterly direction
along the northeast line of State Lease No, 1.2 to the Shoreline of Corpus Christi
Bay; THENCE along the meanders of Corpus Christi Bay to the intersection of
said shoreline with the northeast line of State Survey No. 417; THENCE in a
southeasterly and southerly direction along the boundary line of State lease
No. 417 to its intersection with the center line of the Ship Channel; THENCE
in a westerly direction along the center line of the Ship Channel to the old
City Limits Line as it existed prior to October 31, 1950; THENCE southward along
said east city limits line as it existed prior to October 31, 1950, to its
intersection with the east extension of the center line of Lawrence Street;

City Ward No. 2 shall comprise and shall, include that area bounded
as follows, to -wit:
BEGINNING at the intersection of the centerline of Leopard Street
and Upper North Broadway; THENCE northward along centerline of Upper North Broad-
way to intersection with centerline of West Broadway; THENCE in a northwesterly
direction with the centerline of West Broadway to the intersection with the center-
line of Mainline track of Missouri Pacific Railway; THENCE with the centerline
of said Railway track West to intersection with centerline of Kennedy Street ex-
tended; THENCE Southward with centerline of Kennedy Street to intersection with
centerline of Winnebago Street; THENCE in an easterly direction along the center
line of Winnebago to the intersection with the centerline of North Port Avenue;
THENCE Southward along the centerline of North Port Avenue to the centerline

City Ward No. 3 shall comprise and shall include that area bounded
as follows, to-wit:
BEGINNING at the intersection of the centerline of Leopard Street with
the centerline of Port Avenue; THENCE west with the centerline of Leopard Street
to the intersection of the centerline of Nueces Bay Boulevard; THENCE North with
the centerline of Nueces Bay Boulevard to the centerline of the Main Track of
the Missouri Pacific Railway; THENCE East with the centerline of said Railway
Track to intersection with centerline of Kennedy Street extended; THENCE South-
ward with the centerline of Kennedy Street to intersection with centerline of
Winnebago Street; THENCE in an easterly direction along the center line of Winne-
bago to the intersection with the centerline of North Port Avenue; THENCE South-
ward along the centerline of North Port Avenue to the centerline of Leopard Street;

City Ward No. 4 shall comprise and shall include that area bounded
as follows, to-wit:
BEGINNING at the intersection of the centerline of Nueces Bay Boulevard
with the City Limits Line at a point North of the intersection of Nueces Street;
THENCE North with the City Limits Line to South bank of Ship Channel; THENCE
East along South bank of Ship Channel to the intersection with the centerline of
Nueces Bay Boulevard extended; THENCE South along the centerline of Nueces Bay
Boulevard to the PLACE OF BEGINNING.

hart Road to intersection with centerline of Gaines Street Extended; THENCE
South along centerline of Gaines Street Extended and centerline of Gaines Street

of Robert Drive and Extension of said centerline to intersection with City Limit

City Limits Line at a point approximately 300 Feet West of South Staples Street;
THENCE Eastward along centerline of Everhart Road to Extension of centerline of
Gaines Street; THENCE Southward with the extension of centerline of Gaines Street;
and centerline of Gaines Street to intersection with centerline of Robert Drive,
THENCE Eastward along centerline of Robert Drive and extension of said centerline to
the- City Limit Line as it existed prior to October 31, 1950; THENCE North with
said Old City Limits Line to intersection with centerline of Ship Channel; THENCE
Eastward with centerline of Ship Channel to present City Limits Line; THEME South-
ward with present City Limits Line continuing on with the present City Limits
Line to PLACE OF BEGINNING,
SECTION 2. That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict here-
with are hereby repealed and that Ordinance No. 3579, passed and approved by the
City Council on the 4th day of :Navy 1953, is hereby expressly repealed.
SECTION 3. That the fact that a new division of wards is required for the
City in order to insure better voting facilities in future elections creates a
public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it
is introduced andtbat such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several
meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such public emergency
and imperative public necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule
be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction
and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS
ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORT -H IN THE EMERGENCY_ CLAUSE OF
THE FOREGOING -ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY
EXIST FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS
INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT
THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST
THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS
ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
