AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER FOR AND
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO EXECUTE
A CONTRACT WITH FAIRBANKS. MORSE AND COMPANY, OF
DALLAS. TEXAS, FOR THE PURCHA5E AND INSTALLATION OF
SEWAGE PUMPS AT WEST SIDE LIFT STATION, BEING INOWN
AS "PROJECT PUSS -1 "; APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF
14.703.00 OUT OF NO. 297 SANITARY SEWER IMPROVE0ENT
BOND FUND TO COVER SUCH PURCHASE AND CONSTRUCTION;
MAKING SAID CONTRACT A PART HEREOF BY REFERENCE; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City TV!anager is hereby authorized and
directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi
a contract with Fairbanks, Morse and Company, of Dallas, Texas, for
the purchase and installation of sewage pumps at west side lift station,
said project being known as "Project PUSS —1 ", which contract has been
awarded in accordance with plans, specifications and contract docu-
ments on file in the office of theCity Secretary, all of which are made
a part hereof by reference, and according to the bid of Fairbanks, Morse
and Company, opened on the 14th day of April, 1954, the said bid of
Fairbanks, Morse and Company being the lowest and most advantageous
to theCity of Corpus Christi, Texas,
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated the sum of $4,703.00
FROM NO. 297 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Bond Fund to cover the cost of
such purchase and construction.
SECTION 3. The necessity for installing these sewage pumps
so that the residents of the west side of town may have access to these
lines from the new lift station creates a public emergency and an imperative
public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no
ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its
introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at
three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having
declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the
suspension of said Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed

finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance
take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its
passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY PASSED AND APPROVED, This the
day of May, 1954,

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF
THE FOREGOING - ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECE33ITY
EXIST FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS
INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT
THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST
THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS
ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
