HomeMy WebLinkAbout03863 ORD - 09/01/195411 R AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "SETTING UP, CREATING AND DIVIDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CRISTI, TEXAS, INTO TWENTY -FOUR (24) WORDS: DESCRIBING THE SCIUND RIES THEREOF: REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES THAT CONFLICT HEREWITH: AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, " BEING ORDINANCE NO. 3743, PASSED AM APPROVED THE 28TH DAY OF APRIL, 1954, BY INCLUDING IN THE AREA COMPRISING CITY WARD NO. 21 ALL OF THE TERRITORY ANNEXED'DATPD JUNE, 23, 1954, AND BY INCLUDING IN WARD NO. 24 ALL OF THE TERRITORY AN- NEXED•TO THE CITY BY ORDINANCE NO. 3806 AND DATED JULY 14,1954; RE- ENACTING AM CONTINUING IN FORCE ALL OF THE OTHER PROVISIONS OF SAID ORDINANCE N0, 3743; AND DECLARING AN EhE 23-DACY, WFEREAS, It is deemed necessary to include within the City wards of the City of Corpus Christi all of the territory which has been annexed since the adoption of ordinance No. 3743, setting up, creating and dividing the City of Corpus Christi into City Wards, in order to conform with the laws of the State of Texas regarding the holding of elections; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1, That an ordinance entitled "an Ordinance Setting up, creating and dividing the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, into Twenty -Four (24) wards; describing the boundaries thereof; repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances that conflict herewith; and declaring an emergency," and being ordinance No. 3743, passed and approved the 28th day of April, 1954 and recorded in Volume 22, pages 273 -277 inclusive of the ordinance and resolu- tion records of the City of Corpus Christi,,be amended to the effect that City Ward No, 21 shall comprise and include the area bounded and described as hereinafter set forth and to the effect that City Ward No. 24 shall comprise and include that area bounded and described as hereinafter set forth, to -wit: City Ward No. 21 shall comprise and shall include that area bounded as follows, to -wit: BEGINNING at the intersection of the centerline of Everhart Road with centerline of Gollibar Road; THENCE Northwestward with centerline of Gollihar extended to Western City Limits Line;THENCE Southward and Southeastward and continuing on with the City Limits Line to the centerline of Everhart Road to the place of beginning, including all of that territory annexed to the City of Corpus Christi adjacent to the City of Corpus Christi by ordinance No, 3790, dated the 23rd day of June, 1954 and des- cribed in said ordinance No, 3790. IMS: em' 9/1/54 City ]lard No. 24, shall include that area bounded as follows,to -wit: BEGINNING at the intersection of the centerline of Everhart Road with centerline of South Alameda Street; THENCE, Eastward with centerline of Everhart Road to intersection with centerline of Gaines Street Extended; THENCE So.ith along centerline of Gaines Street Extended and centerline of Gaines Street to intersection with centerline of Robert Drive; THENCE East along centerline of Robert Drive and Extension of said centerline to intersection with City Limit Line as it existed prior, to October 31, 1950; THENCE with said Old City Limits Line to intersection with exten- sion of centerline of Alta Vista Street; THENCE Westward with extension of centerline of Alta Vista Street, Southern Boundary of Hewitt Estates Addition and continuing on with centerline of Minnesot9.Street to intersection with centerline of South Alameda Street; THENCE Soutb with centerline of South Alameda Street to the place of beginning including all of that territory annexed to the City by ordinance No. 3806, dated July 14, 1954. SECTION 2. All of the provisions of said ordinance No. 3743, passed and approved on the 28th day of April, 1954, save and except as herein amended as to said City Wards, No. 21, and 24, respectively shall remain and continue in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That the fact that territory has been annexed to the City of Corpus Christi and is required to be included in the proper City wards of the City of Corpus Christi in order to insure better voting facilities in future elections, creates a public emergency, and an imperative public necessity re- quiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of said Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
