BE IT ORDAIN10'BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. That the City Manager of the City of Corpus Christi,
for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi, be, and he is hereby authorized
and directed to execute a contract with•Burnett Construction Company for modifi-
cation of the Broadway Sewage Treatment Plant, Units A and B, for a total contract
cost of $915,150.00, in accordance with plans and specifications and contract docu-
ments, made a part hereof by reference, all of which are on file in the office of
the City Secretary.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated the sum of $915,150.00
out of No. 297 Sanitary Sewer System Bond Improvement Fund, of which amount $910,150.00
is for construction of Units A and B, and $5,000.00 is the amount needed for contin-
gencies for said project.

SECTION 3. That the unexpended balance of aforesaid/appropriation
for contingencies
/ on April 30, 1955 will revert to the fund from which it was appropriated, and further
provided that no funds shall be paid out of the funds hereby appropriated, except
with the approval of the City Council on motion passed by a majority of the Council.
SECTION 4. The necessity for the modification of the'Broadway
Sewage Treatment Plant, due to the increased size of the City, creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter
rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its
introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several
meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and
necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of said Charter rule and that
this ordinance-be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such
ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage,

ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE•PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE,
HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS
THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
