CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI LAKE MATHIS AREA FOR WATER SUPPLY WELLS AND INSTALLING PUKING EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT The work contemplated by these specifications covers the drilling, testing, elec- tric log, cementing servieea, and gravel packingo 3ACATION AND DEPTH One well shall be drilled on owner's property below present site of Mathis Dam. The exact location shall be stated by owner, Well shall be drilled to a depth to be set by the Director of Public Utilities or his agent but will not exceed 900 feet. RIGHT-OF-WAY The City will furnish the well site with suitable easements of access to sites and for workman areas. CASING AND SCREEN The City will furnishthe following 1. 24 inch surface casing 2. From the depth of, approximately 180 feet through the remaining send section, as previously determined by the Director of Public Utilities, the test hole shall be reamed to a diameter suffioient to enable the proper setting of 16 inch caaingn and proper gravel bed. -2- CASINO AND SCREEN All apsing will be steel pipe and will be furnished by the City. The upper casing will'be 2411 O.D. Plain End beveled for welding and shall be electric welded in hole. The surface casing shall be extended form a point approximately 1211 above the ground surface to a depth determined by the first potable water or depth speci- fied by the Director of Public Utilities. The upper casing shall be fitted with cement set shoe,, and it will be set and cemented in place before reaming for lower casing. This string of casing shall run freely into hole without binding. In the event of binding the casing shall be removed and the hole re- reamed until oaring sets Without binding. The lower oasing shall, be 16N outside diameter,, and shall weigh 47 pounds per foot. The lower casing shall extend from an ele- vation approximately 16 inches above the ground surface to a depth through the sand which is estimated to be about 600 feet. The bottom of this 16 ®inoh oaring shall be fitted with a cement float shoed Baker or equalo A centralizer shall be affixed to the 16 inch casing at an elevation of 4 feat above the cement float shoe and at a point above 5 feat above the bottom of 2411 casing. Other centralizers are to be installed at required locations in accordance with Dir- ector of Public Utilities' instructions. For the purpose of estimating this work,, it will be assumed that .4 centralizers will be required. The contractor will bid a unit price for the number of centralizers less than or in excess of fouro SCREEN SECTION The maroon shall consist of 16 Inch slotted oaring. The size,, width and number of slots shall be determined on the basis of mechanical analysis of-sand in the producing -zone. The casing and screen shall be set in one continuous strings the slotted area of the 16 inch casing shall be determined after the completion of test hole and shall be equal to the thickness of all water bearing sands, penetrated below a depth determined by the first potable water. That portion of the 16 inch casing opposite the impervious strata shall consist of blank casing. The bottom of the lowest screen shall be equipped with an improved back pressure valve and wood wash plug. Five feet of blank pipe shall be left on the bottom and of the lowest screen which shall met in the rat -hole and shall center the lower end of the screen in the reamed hole. After the casing has been set,, the contractor shall thoroughly and completely fill with gravel (moo below) the annular space between the reamed hole and the screen and casing from the bottom of the well to the ground surface. The gravel ehall be specially selected,, washed and screened particles without sharp edgeso Crushed gravel will not be usedo The actual placing of gravel around the casing shall be done by the use of a high p"asure hydraulic pump. The gravel shall be deposited through tubing in such a manner as to insure the complete surroundLig of screen and casing from bottom to tops the tubing is raised only as the annulus becomes completely packed by a continuous process. 3- The well shall be properly washed, agitated and developed by proper means of surging or other methods. The development shall be continued until the water is free of mud, shell or other soluble ew,t -1,y substances are settled, out of the water and until the sands are stabilized. The contractor shall determine that no sand is deposited in the bottom of the casing and screens. The maximum amount of sand produced on the final test shall not exceed one ounce from each 1.00 gallons producedo Sand test is to be made after the well has been in continuous operation for a period of one hour. The pumping equipment used for developing and testing the well shall be fur- niched by the contractor and the permanent pump which is to be installed in the well shall not be used for this purpose. The final pumping test on the well shall be for a period of not less than eight (B) consecutive hours. If, in the opinion of the Director of Public Utilities,, less than this amount is re- quired, deductions shall be likewise made at the 13mit prices contained in bid. MILL -STEM TEST Y If a sample of water from the test hole is deemed necessary by the Director of Publid Utilities, it shall be obtained from the bottom of hole by drill -stem testing methods using oollapsible -type wall packer. The drill. -stem test moat be made by a,00mpany or organization approved by the Director of Public Utili- ties. The contractor shall furnish suitable containers for the oollection of water eamplee as directed by the Director of Public Utilitdes. At the time drill -stem teat is made, there shall also be mads bottom hole pressure and temperature tests on recording charts. These tests are to be made by the same contractor and using the same equipment regularly used in making drill -stem test. This test shall be made In such a manner that no water will be taken from sands above a oollapsible -type wall packer. FORMATION SAWLES Samples of each change in formation shall be preserved labeled as to depth and paleontological examination made of such samples. Standard mechanical analysis shall be made of 3 samples taken from sand. seoticn. The log of -beat hole shall be kept up -to -date and shall be available to Director of Public Utilities at all times. Upon completion of well, said log, samples and d0.11ing data shall become the prop- erty of the 0ity and contractor shall agree to promptly deliver all such data and sample@ to the Director of Public Utilities. EIEOTRIO WO On completion of drilling and listing operations, the pilot hole shall be eleotri- oally logged for its entire depth. The eletrio log shall be made by a company or organization approved by Director of Public Utilities. The log shall include the normal and lateral resistirity curves. The scale of the logging record shall be determined by the Director of Public Utilities. -l° . L Bidder must complete this form and sign in space provided below.
