RECEIVING AND ACCEPTING THE WORK OF REMODELING
THE :OLD CITY HALL BUILDING IRM LA RETAMA
PUIZIC LIBRARY IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS, PERFORMED BY E. E.
HARRISON, CONTRACTOR, UNDER CONTRACT DATED
SEPTEMam 8, 1953, AS AUTHORIZED BY ORDINANCE
NO. 3526; AUTSORTLING IDLY wT OF FINAL E mT AATE,
A COPY OF WHICH IS ATTACHED HERETO AND MADE A
PART MMOF,.DATED MAY 16, 1955, IN THE AMOUNT
OF $6,194.39, OUT Or FUNDS HERETOFORE APPROPRIATED
ON THE BALANCE OF A TOTAL DOE (ON CONTRACT IN THE
O=UINA,L AMOUNT OF $304, 395.00) of $312, 764.39;

c BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. That the work of remodeling the old'City Hall Building
into ha Retama Public Library in the City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas,
performed by E. E. Harrison, Contractor, under his contract with the City, having
been performed and completed in accordance with the terms and provisions of the
contract and the plans and specifications therein contained, said contract having
been entered into on the 8th day of September, 1953, as authorized by Ordinance No.
3526,and the Director of Public Works having inspected the same and certified to the
completion of said work in accordance with said plans and specifications, and said
work aforesaid is hereby found to have been completed in accordance with the plans
and specifications and is here now accepted and received by the City Council of the
City of Corpus Christi, Texas.
SECTION 2. That final payment of $6,194.39 out of funds hereto-
fore appropriated, due on the contract (in the original amount of $30+,395.00), of
$3121764.39, as set out in the final estimate attached hereto and made a part hereof,
prepared by the Director of Public Works, dated May 16, 1955, to be paid from No. 296
Improvement Bonds 1950 Construction Fund (Public Library), in accordance with the appro-
priation ordinances.
SECTION 3• That the necessity for completion of such project by
said acceptance and final payment creates a public emergency and an imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule providing that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance
or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the
Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, requesting that such Charter

rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its
introduction and take effect and be in fu11 force and effect from.and after its
passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINEn,

GENTLEMEN:
FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FOREGOING
ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE,
HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS
THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCEO, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
