HomeMy WebLinkAbout04442 ORD - 01/11/1956A AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE TRANSFER BY JIM SPARKS TO COASTAL BEND RENT -A -CAR, INC., OF THE FRANCHISE GRANTED TO THE SAID JIM SPARKS BY ORDINANCE NO. 4436, APPROVED THE 4TH DAY OF JANUARY, 1956, TO EN- GAGE IN THE BUSINESS OF OPERATING A "DRIVERLESS AUTOMOBILE" BUSINESS; CONFIRMING THE ACTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL IN GRANTING TO JIM SPARKS TEN (10) PERMITS FOR "DRIVERLESS AUTOMOBILES "; AP- PROVING THE TRANSFER FROM JIM SPARKS TO COASTAL BEND RENT -A -CAR, INC., OF SAID TEN (10) PERMITS FOR "DRIVERLESS AUTOMOBILES"; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. The transfer by Jim Sparks to Coastal Bend Rent -A -Car, Inc., of that certain franchise granted to him by the City Council by Ordinance No. 4436, approved on the 4th day of January, 1956, To Engage In The Business Of Operating A "Driverless Automobile" Business is approved. SECTION 2. The granting to Jim Sparks on the 4th day of January, 1956, of ten (10) permits for the operation of ten (10) "Driverless Automobiles" is hereby confirmed, and said ten (10) permits are by this ordinance specifically granted. SECTION 3. The transfer by Jim Sparks to Coastal Bend Rent -A -Car, Inc., of the said ten (10) permits for the operation of ten (10) "Driverless Automobiles" is hereby confirmed. SECTION 4. The fact that additional "Driverless Auto- mobiles" are immediately necessary to serve the traveling public which visits Corpus Christi for business and for pleasure creates a public emergency and public imperative necessity requiring the suspension of the charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three (3) separate meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity exists, and having 4V42- requested that such charter rule be suspended and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, it is accordingly so ordained. Mayor, City of Corpus Christi, Texas City cretary- _ r APPROVED AS TO LEGAL FORM: IM4 City Atto ey Corpus Christi, Texas January " , 1956 TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS Gentlemen: Additional "Driverless Automobiles" are immediately necessary to serve the traveling public which visits Corpus Christi for business and for pleasure, and further delay in the passage of this ordinance would thus be detrimental to the general welfare of the citizens of this community. For the reasons set out above and the reasons set out in the emergency clause in the foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative public necessity exists for the suspension of the charter rule requiring that no ordinance or resolution be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three separate meet- ings of the City Council; I therefore hereby request that you suspend said charter rule or requirement, and pass said or- dinance on the date of its introduction or at the present meeting of the City Council.
