APPROPRIATING CERTAIN SUMS OF MONEY FOR THE BUDGET FOR
THE FISCAL. YEAR BEGINNING AUGUST 1 1956 AND ENDING
JULY 31, 1957; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the
25th day of July, 1956, and prior to the first regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, in August, 1956, the City
Council, did, by ordinance, accept, approve and adopt the Budget of the City
of Corpus Christi, for the fiscal year beginning August 1, 1956, and ending
July 31, 1957; and
WIIERFAS, Upon adoption of the budget, and pursuant to Section 27,
Article V, of the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, the
City Council must, at once, by ordinance appropriate such sums of money for
each department as provided in the Budget for the ensuing fiscal year from
August 1, 1956, to July 31, 1957;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BYTLLE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That on this the 25th day of July, 1956, and subse-
quent to and following the passage of the ordinance accepting, approving
and adopting the Budget of the City of Corpus Christi, for the fiscal year
beginning August 1, 1956, and ending July 31, 1957, certain sums of money be,
and they are hereby appropriated to cover the sums as provided for each of
the several departments of said City, as said sums do appear in the said
budget already approved by ordinance by the said City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi, and said Budget being of record in the archives of said City.
SECTION 2. That the fact that the appropriation ordinance must be
passed immediately after the budget is adopted and must be published once
before becoming effective, creates a public emergency and an imperative
public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordin-
ance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction,
and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meet-
ings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and

necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of said Charter rule
and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction
and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and publication. IT IS ACCORDINGLY PASSED AM APPROVED, This the 25th day
of July, 1956.

OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED
FINALLY ON THE DATE IT 15 INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT
YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON
THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
