CLOSING ALL THAT PORTION OF WATER STREET
WHICH LIES BETWEEN THE FOLLOWING 'LINES:
THE NORTHERLY BOUNDARY: BEING A LINE DRAWN
AT RIGHT ANGLES ACROSS THE CENTERLINE OF
WATER STREET AT A POINT 180 FEET SOUTH OF
THE CENTERLINE OF BESSIE STREET, SOMETIMES
KNOWN AS NINTH STREET, IN BROOKLYN ADDITION.
THE SOUTHERLY BOUNDARY: BEING A LINE DRAWN
ACROSS WATER STREET PARALLEL TO THE CENTER-
LINE OF THE AUTHORIZED 400 FOOT REALIGNED
CHANNEL AND CROSSING THE CENTERLINE OF WATER
STREET AT A POINT WHICH IS 388.5 FEET NORTH
OF THE CENTERLINE OF DAN REID STREET, SAID
LINE ALSO BEING 192.85 FEET SOUTH OF THE

L�o� IDED SUCH IS TO BE
THE GE I THE WORK OF REMOVING THECBAS ULE AT
BRIDGE IS ACTUALLY BEGUN; AND RELINQUISHING
ALL TITLE THERETO AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Corpus
Christi has been petitioned that the hereafter described por-
tion of Water Street in the City of Corpus Christi be closed,
to -wit:
That portion of Water Street which lies between
the following lines which designate the north-
erly and southerly boundaries of that portion of
the street to be closed:
The northerly boundary: Being a line
drawn at right angles across the center-
line of Water Street at a point 180 feet
south of the centerline of Bessie Street,
sometimes known as Ninth Street, in Brook -
lYn Addition.
The southerly boundary: Being a line
drawn across Water Street parallel to the
centerline of the authorized 400 foot
realigned channel and crossing the center-
line of Water Street at a point which is;,,
388.5 feet north of the centerline of Dan'
Reid Street, said line also being 192.85
feet south of the south abutment of the 4
bascule bridge; and
WHEREAS the City Council at its regular meeting on
the 5th day of November, 1958, authorized publication of notice
Of public hearing before'the,City Couhcil to consider such clos-
ing of said street; and
WHEREAS notice of the proposed closing of the said
street has been given by publication and also by mail to the
last known `address of,all owners' abutting said street and with-
in four hundred fifty feet (4501) therefrom, in accordance with

the Charter of the City of Corpus Christi, as provided for
under Article II, Section 6 thereof; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the notice given as
above set out, a public hearing was held by the City Council
of the City of Corpus Christi, at 2 :00 o'clock P.M. on the
18th day of November, 1958, in the City Council Chamber at
the City Hall; and
WHEREAS, the public safety, walfare, convenience and
necessity will be better served by the closing of the said pro -
tion of the street to be effective at the time requested;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF TEE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTIQN 1. That; effective at,the time the work of
removing the bascule bridge is actually begun, all that por-
tion of Water Street in the City of Corpus Christi and described
as follows, be closed: r
That portion of Water Street` which lies between
the following lines which designate the north-
erly and southerly boundaries of that portion of
the- street to be closed:
The northerly boundary: Being a line

SECTION 2. That the City of Corpus Christi hereby
releases and relinquishes all right, title and interest in and
to that portion of Water Street in the City of Corpus Christi,
as described in Section 1 hereof, to the property owners abutting
said street and the same shall revert to said owners at the time
the closing of the street is effective, as specified in Sec-
tion 1 hereof.

SECTION 3. The fact that public convenience and
necessity Will be better served by the closing of said por-
tion of said street as a public street at the time the work
of removing the bascule bridge is actually begun creates a
public emergency and a public imperative necessity requiring
the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or reso-
lution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced
and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having
declared that such public emergency and imperative necessity
exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended
and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its
introduction, and take effect and be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.

GENTLEMEN:
_ FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE
SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION
SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCEDI AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE
OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THERE -
FORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS
THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
