AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE, 1958, BY
ADDING AS PART OF ARTICLE IV OYCHAPTER 9 OF
SAID CODE A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION
9-58 (a) AND ENTITLED "SPEED LIMITS IN THE SODTW
BASIN "t AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Corpus Christi City Code, 1958, be amended
by adding a new section to be known as Section 9 -58 (a) and entitled "Speed
Limits in the South Basin ", and reading as follows:
"Section 9- 58(a). Speed Limits in the South Basin. That no
person shall operate any boat or water craft at a speed greater than 4 miles
per hour in the South Basin, the South Basin being that area between the
L -Read and the south breakwater. Further, that no person shall operate any
boat or water craft at a speed greater than 4 miles per hour within 200 feet
of the L -Head, the T- Heads, and the breakwater north of the Peoples Street
T- Head." -
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its
publication one time in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi,
which publication shall contain the caption stating in summary the purpose of
the Ordinance and the penalty for violation thereof.
SECTION 3. The necessity and public importance of regulating speed
Limits as stated above so as to eliminate many of the existing hazards in the
Yacht Basin creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity
requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution
shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance
or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and
the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having re-
quested the suspension of said Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance take effect
and be in full force and effect as hereinabove provided, IT IS ACCORDINGLY

FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE
SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL; (, THEREFORI=, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER
RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS
INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
