Turner Council Members: * David Berlanga, Sr. City Manager Edward A. Martin Welder Brown City Attorney J. Bruce Aycock Dr. Charles W. Kennedy, Jr. City Secretary Armando Chapa Joe McComb Frank Mendez ABSENT: Council Member Leo Guerrero Council Member Mary Pat Slavik Mayor Luther Jones called the meeting to order in the Council Chamber of City Hall. Council Member Welder Brown gave the invocation, following which the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States was led by Mayor Pro Tem Betty N. Turner. City Secretary Armando Chapa called the roll and verified that a necessary quorum of the Council and the required Charter Officers were present to conduct a legally constituted meeting. Mayor Jones announced the canvassing of the returns of the General Election conducted April 6, 1985. City Secretary Chapa briefly reviewed the memorandum he had prepared which explained several slight discrepancies between the telephone returns that were released Saturday night, April 6th, and the corrected figures according to the General Returns. Mr. Chapa then certified that the following Council Members had been elected without a runoff: MICROFILMED Minutes Special Council Meeting April 8, 1985 Page 2 Mayor Luther Jones Council Members At -Large - Council Member District #1 Council Member District lit Council Member District ll3 Council Member District #4 Council Member District ll5 Dr. Jack Best, Mary Pat Slavik, Bill Pruet - Frank Mendez - David Berlanga, Sr. - Leo Guerrero - Linda Strong - Joe McComb * Council Member Berlanga arrived at the meeting at 8:44 a.m. Mayor Jones then selected two precincts at random to check the General Return sheets with the computer print-out and they proved to be correct. He inquired if anyone in the audience planned to request a recount. There was no response. Mayor Jones then called for the votes on the ordinance canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the General Election. City Secretary Chapa polled the Council for their vote on the ordinance and the following was passed: ORDINANCE NO. 18780: CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE REGULAR ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI HELD ON THE 6TH DAY OF APRIL, 1985; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The Charter Rule was suspended and the ordinance passed by the following vote: Jones, Turner, Berlanga, Brown, Kennedy, McComb, and Mendez voting, "Aye"; Guerrero and Slavik, absent. * * * * * * * * * There being no further business to come before the Council, on motion by Council Member Brown, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Turner, and passed unanimously, the Special Council Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m., April 8, 1985.
