AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION
TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR
CONTINUATION OF THE SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT FOR
TRAFFIC SAFETY GRANT WHICH ESTABLISHES THE
TRAFFIC SAFETY COORDINATOR POSITION, ALL AS
MORE FULLY SET FORTH IN THE GRANT APPLICATION,
A COPY OF WHICH, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE SAME FORM
ATTACHED HERETO, MARRED EXHIBIT "A ", IS MADE A
PART HEREOF, AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF ALL
NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO CONTINUE THE PROGRAM IF
AND WHEN THE GRANT IS APPROVED; AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized
to submit a grant application to the Governor's Office of Traffic Safety
for continuation of the Systems Management for Traffic Safety grant which
establishes the Traffic Safety Coordinator position, all as more fully
set forth in the grant application, a copy of which, in substantially
the same form attached hereto, marked Exhibit "A ", is made a part hereof,
and to execute all necessary documents to continue the program if and when
the grant is approved.
SECTION 2. The necessity to authorize submission of the
grant application and such other necessary documents to continue the
Systems Management for Traffic Safety grant creates a public emergency
and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on
the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the
Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having
requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance
take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED this theoc6 da of March, 1975.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE. GOALS

PURPOSE
To increase the overall traffic safety for the City of Corpus Christi by
identifying the traffic problems and developing effective countermeasures.
RELATIONSHIP TO STATE TRAFFIC SAFETY PROGRAM (AS SHOWN IN AWP)
This project is directly related to task 2001 -02 in -the AWP.

METHOD OF EVALUATION
This project will be evaluated in terms of compliance by the City of Corpus Christi
with the National Safety Standards.
STATEMENT OF WORK
For this grant period the Traffic Safety Coordinator will continue those traffic
safety programs already in effect and will oversee the development of the program to
extract traffic accident data from a computer tape furnished by DPS. The data will
be used to determine the causative factors in traffic accidents. The Traffic Safety
Coordinator will work with the Traffic Engineer, Police Department, other city agencies
and citizens groups in the development of effective countermeasures which will mater-
ially reduce traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities in the City of Corpus Christi.
In addition, the Traffic Safety Coordinator will review and revise current traffic
safety programs as necessary and review the cost effectiveness of this project. The
Traffic Safety Coordinator will also assist in overseeing the Photologging project to
insure maximum utilization by Traffic Engineering and other departments in the City.
