HomeMy WebLinkAbout13008 RES - 02/04/1976A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO REQUEST FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF SPAIN AN AMERICAN REVOLUTION BICENTENNIAL GIFT; AND DESIGNATING THIS GIFT BE A FOUNTAIN PLAZA IN THE BAYFRONT ARTS AND SCIENCE PARR WHICH WILL PORTRAY THE HISTORICAL INFLUENCE OF THE SPANISH CULTURE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has a rich heritage of Spanish influence dating back to the exploration period in the 16th and 17th centuries; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi has called upon the Corpus Christi American Revolution Bicentennial Commission to recognize that the policy of the City Council be to embrace programs that enhance the social standing of all races and contribute significantly to the multilingual and multicultural nature of our community. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TE W : SECTION 1. That submission of a formal request be made to the government of Spain through the Regional Director of the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission to the Spanish Consul in Houston. SECTION 2. That the proposed project will be a multisided fountain made of mosaic tile relating the pictorial history of Spanish influence. The water will flow over the mosaic giving a feeling of move- ment. SECTION 3. The necessity to submit the request in a timely manner in order that it may be considered and completed in the Bicentennial year creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this resolution be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect 13008 from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this the day of A i , 1976.
