HomeMy WebLinkAbout15310 RES - 01/16/1980RESOLUTION RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE RAILROAD COMMISSION OF TEXAS TO DEVELOP PROCEDURES FOR THE INTRASTATE DISTRIBUTION OF SURPLUS NATURAL GAS. WHEREAS, the Gas Utilities Division of the Railroad Commission of Texas, in Docket No. 2336, is attempting to develop procedures whereby the available supply of natural gas within the State of Texas can be shared or apportioned on an equitable basis among the gas utilities within the State so as to alleviate WHEREAS, for the furnishing WHEREAS, which the supplier the demands of all system was avoided having voluntarily WHEREAS, shortages; and the City of Corpus Christi owns a gas distribution system of natural gas to the residents of Corpus Christi; and during the winter of 1978-1979 a situation occurred in of natural gas to the City of Corpus Christi could not meet of its customers and curtailment of supply to this City's only by certain large industrial and power generating customers switched to alternate fuels during that shortage; and a dependable supply of gas to homes, businesses, the industrial complex within the metropolitan area, and to electrical power generating plants is vital to the health, safety and welfare of the residents of this area; and WHEREAS, the actions proposed by the Gas Utilities Division in Docket No. 2336 are well calculated to increase the dependability of the supply of natural gas to this area and other areas within the State of Texas; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: That the City of Corpus Christi supports the efforts of the Railroad Commission of Texas in Gas Utilities Division Docket No. 2336 to further insure a dependable supply of natural gas to all areas within the State of Texas; and That the City of Corpus Christi supports the adoption of a system of mandatory sharing of surplus intrastate supplies of natural gas with the purpose of preventing shortages of this vital fuel within the State of Texas; and That the City of Corpus Christi endorses the emergency amendment to Rule 051.04.03.014, adopted by the Commission on January 7, 1980, which has the affect of requiring intrastate pipelines to provide adequate service to all of its existing customers before delivering natural gas to the interstate market; and 15310 That the City Manager is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this Resolution to be filed with the Gas Utilities Division and to take such further steps as he deems reasonably necessary to effectuate the City of Corpus Christi's interest in this matter, including full participation in Docket No. 2336, if appropriate.
