WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi to participate in the receipt of federal funds available
under the Justice System Improvement Act of 1979; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is required to exercise an
option as set forth by the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the
Governor in order to be eligible for the receipt of funds, said option to
be exercised by written commitment on or before March 7, 1980:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to exercise
eligibility option la pursuant to Section 402(a) of the Justice System Improve-
ment Act of 1979 by executing the appropriate commitment form and forwarding
to the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Governor on or before
March 7, 1980.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a
public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter
rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on
the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three meetings Of the City Council; I, therefore, request that you suspend
said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally.on the date_it
is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
