HomeMy WebLinkAbout15401 ORD - 03/05/1980• vp : 3/3/80 :1st AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING A SUPPLEMENTAL CONTRACT WITH THE TOURIST AND CONVENTION BUREAU IN THE AMOUNT OF $30,000 FOR ADDITIONAL ADVERTISING AND AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE TOURIST AND CONVENTION DEVELOPMENT FUND BY INCREASING THE APPROPRIATION FOR THE TOURIST AND CONVENTION BUREAU, ACTIVITY 5501, CODE 301, FROM $520,000 TO $535,000 AND REDUCING THE RESERVE BY $15,000; AND DECLARING AN EMER- GENCY. • BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be authorized to execute a supple- mental contract with the Tourist and Convention Bureau in the amount of $30,000 for additional advertising and amending the budget for the Tourist and Convention Development Fund by increasing the appropriation for the Tourist and Convention Bureau, Activity 5501, Code 301, from $520,000 to $535,000 and reducing the reserve by $15,000. A substantial copy of the supplemental con- tract is attached hereto, marked "Exhibit A" and made a part hereof. SECTION 2. The necessity to authorize execution of the aforesaid supplemental contract at the earliest practicable date creates a public emer- gency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the S day of March, 1980. TEXAS THE STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF NUECES SUPPLEMENTAL CONTRACT KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: WHEREAS, The City of Corpus Christi, a municipal corporation, hereinafter called "City", has commenced construction of a convention facility and desires to attract conventions to Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Area Convention and Tourist Bureau, a Texas non-profit corporation, hereinafter called 'Bureau", has previously contracted to provide City professional services through advertising and promotion of additional tourist and convention traffic to the Corpus Christi area, and to assist in creating conditions which will encourage them to re- turn on other visits and for meetings; and WHEREAS, City has appropriated $520,000 for its fiscal year 1980 for the purchase of said professional services from Bureau; and WHEREAS, City and Bureau desire to carry out additional convention advertising in anticipation of the opening of the convention facility; and WHEREAS, City has previously appropriated the sum of $20,000 to fund said additional advertising services. NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual covenants contained herein to be kept and performed by the parties hereto, City and Bureau agree to supplement the existing contract as follows: 1. Bureau agrees to provide additional professional services to City through advertising and promotion of convention traffic to the Corpus Christi area, said additional professional services including only supplemental development of promotional advertising in convention trade publications in addition to that in the approved budget. 2. Bureau agrees to pay any costs of said additional professional services which are not reimbursed by City from funds not already authorized for another purpose and not provided by City. 3. City agrees to reimburse Bureau for fifty per cent of the costs of said additional professional services actually performed upon receipt of invoices and tear sheets from Bureau prior to July 15, 1980, provided that the total amount reimbursed under this contract shall not exceed $15,000.
