AN ORDINANCE
CLOSING AND ABANDONING A PORTION OR PORTIONS OF SANDBAR
STREET, WOODROW STREET, SURFSIDE BOULEVARD, BRYAN STREET
AND THE 20 -FOOT WIDE ALLEYS IN BLOCK 72, BLOCK 23,
BLOCK 385, BLOCK 384, BLOCK 387 AND BLOCK 388, BROOKLYN
ADDITION, LOCATED NORTH OF GULDEN STREET ON CORPUS CHRISTI
BEACH; RESERVING THE NECESSARY EASEMENTS FOR EXISTING
UTILITIES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, notice of the time and place for holding a hearing con-
cerning the closing of portion or portions of Sandbar Street, Woodrow Street,
Surfside Boulevard, Bryan Street and the 20 -foot wide alleys in Block 72,
Block 23, Block 385, Block 384, Block 387 and Block 388, Brooklyn Addition,
situated North of Gulden Street on Corpus Christi Beach, in the City of
Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, was given by publication and mail to
the last known addresses of the owners of property abutting the area to be
closed and within 450 feet of the area to be closed, and thereafter, pursuant
to said notice, public hearing was held at regular Council Meeting by the
City Council of the City of Corpus Christi on June 25, 1980, in accordance
with the provisions of the City Charter; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the City Council after such
hearing that the portion or portions of Sandbar Street, Woodrow Street,
Surfside Boulevard, Bryan Street and the 20 -foot wide alleys in Block 72,
Block 23, Block 385, Block 384, Block 387 and Block 388, Brooklyn Addition,
proposed to be closed, are not needed now, nor will they be within the fore-
seeable future needed as public streets or public alleys and that it would
best serve the public convenience and necessity to close the portion or portions
of streets and 20 -foot wide alleys, subject to retention by the City of
Corpus Christi the necessary easements for existing utilities, as more particu-
larly described hereinafter:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the hereinafter described portion or portions of
streets and 20 -foot wide alleys in Brooklyn Addition, located north of
Gulden Street on Corpus Christi Beach, situated in the City of Corpus
Christi, Nueces County, Texas, be and the same are hereby closed for public
use and abandoned to the owners of the abutting property, save and except
for those portions of the easements hereinafter described that are retained

1. The 20.0 foot alley in Block 72, Brooklyn Addition,
recorded in Volume A, Page 31, Map Records of Nueces
County, Texas, from the north right-of-way line of
Gulden Street to the south right-of-way line of
Sandbar Street.
2. Sandbar Street from east right-of-way line of Gulfbreeze
Street to the west right-of-way of North Shoreline Boule-
vard, and retaining a utility easement the full width
of the right-of-way.
3. Woodrow Street from east right-of-way line of 20.0
foot alley in Block 389, Brooklyn Addition, to the west
right-of-way line of Timon Boulevard.
4. Woodrow Street from east right-of-way line of Timon
Boulevard to the west right-of-way of Gulfbreeze
Boulevard, and retaining the north half of the
right-of-way as a utility easement.
5. Woodrow Street from the east right-of-way line of
Gulfbreeze Boulevard to the west right-of-way line
of North Shoreline Boulevard.
6. 20.0 foot wide alley in Block 23, Brooklyn Addition,
from the north right-of-way line of Gulden Street to
the south right-of-way line of Sandbar Street, and
retaining the full width of the alley as a utility
easement.
7. The 20.0 foot wide alley in Block 385, Brooklyn Addition,
from north right-of-way line of Sandbar Street to the
south right-of-way line of Woodrow Street, and retaining
the full width of the alley as a utility easement.
8. The 20.0 foot wide alley in Block 384, Brooklyn Addition,
from north right-of-way line of Sandbar Street to the
south right-of-way line of Woodrow Street.
9. The 20.0 foot wide alley in Block 387, Brooklyn Addition,
from the north right-of-way line of Woodrow Street to
north end of dedicated alley.
10. The 20.0 foot wide alley in Block 388, Brooklyn Addition,
from the north right-of-way line of Woodrow Street to
the south right-of-way line of Bryan Street.
11. Sandbar Street from the east right-of-way line of U.S. 181
to the west right-of-way line of Timon Boulevard, and
retaining a utility easement the full width of the right-
of-way from the west right-of-way line (extended) of
Seagull Boulevard to the west right-of-way line of Timon
Boulevard.
12. Surfside Boulevard fromthe north right-of-way line of
Sandbar Street to the south right-of-way line of Woodrow
Street.
13. Bryan Street from west right-of-way line of Timon Boulevard
to the east right-of-way line of dedicated alley of Block
389, Brooklyn Addition.
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or

unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this ordinance,for it is the definite intent of this
City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 3. The fact that the public convenience and necessity
would be better served by the closing of the aforesaid portion or portions
of streets and 20 -foot wide alleys in Brooklyn Addition creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the
date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three several meetinas of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared
that such emergency and necessity exist, having requested the suspension of
the Charter rule, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of
its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the r2/`d. day of

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a
public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter
rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on
the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request that you suspend
said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally,on the date it
is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
