Home My WebLink About15678 ORD - 08/06/1980• jkh:8-6-80;lst AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8127, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SUBSECTION 501, AS AMENDED, BY SUBSTITUTING THE SALARY SCHEDULES ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBITS "A", "B" AND "C", TO PROVIDE FOR A COST OF LIVING INCREASE TO ALL EMPLOYEES EXCEPT FIRE AND POLICE; AMENDING SUBSECTION 552.11 BY DELETING THE PRESENT PROVISIONS AND IN LIEU THEREOF ADOPTING NEW PROVISIONS TO PROVIDE A TRANSITION PROCESS AND SCHEDULE FOR EMPLOYEES AS SET FORTH HEREINAFTER; PROVIDING A SEVERANCE CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: • SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 8127, as amended, be and the same is hereby amended by amending Subsection 501 by attaching new salary schedules for all employees except Fire and Police, substantial copies being attached hereto and made a part hereof for all intents and purposes the same as if copied verbatim herein, marked Exhibits "A", "B" and "C". SECTION 2. That Subsection 552.11, as amended, be amended by deleting the current provisions and in lieu thereof adopting the following provisions: "552.11 Effective July 28, 1980, transition step A-1 in salary schedules A and B utilized during the 1979-80 fiscal year shall be deleted. Employees remaining in step A-1 will be granted an early advance- ment to step A effective July 28, 1980. "Effective July 28, 1980, employees in salary grades 7 and 8 shall be advanced according to the salary schedule below. All other employees in salary schedule A and B shall be advanced to the nearest salary step in their respective grade which provides an increase of approximately 11%. Employees in salary schedule A or B who would have been eligible for a regular longevity step during 1980-81 had the 1980-81 salary changes not occurred will be eligible to receive the next step within the salary schedule. Thereafter, employees shall be eligible to receive further advancement after the completion of normal periods of service in grade and step as provided within the General Salary Schedule, unless otherwise' granted in conformity with the requirements of paragraphs 552.7, 552.$ or 552.8.1. im;ROFILMED AUG 2 91980 15678 • • "Effective January 26, 1981, step A-1 in salary schedule A and B shall be deleted. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, word, phrase or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose. SECTION 4. Except as otherwise may be provided herein, the effective dates of the above changes shall be July 28, 1980. SECTION 5. The necessity to maintain at all times an efficient administration of City affairs creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordi- nance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this thelQ4' day of August, 1980.
