HomeMy WebLinkAbout15683 RES - 08/10/1980flip) JD:dz:8-10-80 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, on the 9th day of August, 1980, Hurricane Allen hit Corpus Christi, Texas; and WHEREAS, the City Council has declared that a state of emergency exists in the City of Corpus Christi as a result of widespread and severe damage to property within the City, and the grave threat to the public health, safety and welfare resulting from Hurricane Allen: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, that the City Manager is directed and authorized on behalf of the City Council to request that Honorable William Clements, Governor of Texas, request necessary disaster relief from the President of the United States under the Federal Disaster Relief Act of 1974 (42 U.S.C.A. ® 5141 et seq) and all other applicable federal laws, and that the City Manager is directed and authorized to execute such documents as necessary to make the request of the Governor and to provide such information as necessary to obtain federal relief. The necessity to immediately authorize the City Manager to take the necessary steps to request the necessary disaster relief as a result of Hurricane Allen creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, having requested that such Charter rule be suspended and that this resolution be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the 10th day of August , 1980.
