A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL IN BEHALF
OF THE CITIZENS OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO THE CITIES AND
COMMUNITIES OF TEXAS FOR THE COOPERATION, ASSISTANCE
AND HOSPITALITY EXTENDED TO THE HURRICANE ALLEN
REFUGEES DURING THE RECENT EMERGENCY; AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, because of the imminent threat of disaster posed by
Hurricane Allen to the Coastal Bend area on August 9 and 10, 1980, tens of
thousands of residents of South Texas and the City of Corpus Christi sought
refuge and safety of the inland cities and communities of Texas; and
WHEREAS, the local governments and officials of the inland cities
and communities of Texas contributed greatly to the welfare, comfort and
peace of mind of our many citizens and residents by the most generous exhi-
bition of aid and hospitality during such time of emergency and crisis; and
WHEREAS, it is the sincere desire of this City Council of the City
of Corpus Christi that said inland cities and communities of Texas be informed
of our expression of thanksgiving;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
SECTION 1. That in the name of the citizens of this community the
City Council hereby extends to the inland cities and communities of Texas and
to the public officials and private citizens thereof, our most sincere apprec-
iation and heartfelt thanks for the generous gifts of assistance, cooperation
and hospitality which, without doubt, was a great contribution in helping our
community to face the crisis presented by Hurricane Allen.
SECTION 2. That this resolution be spread upon the minutes and that
the City Secretary mail to each city council of the inland cities and communi-
ties of Texas a copy of this resolution.
SECTION 3. That the necessity to recognize the assistance and hos-
pitality extended to the Hurricane Allen refugees during the recent emergency
by the inland cities and communities of Texas at the earliest possible date

creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the
suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be
passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council and
the Mayor, having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, having
requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be
passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in
full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO
RESOLVED, this the /0-1-k— day of August, 1980.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a
public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspension of the Charter
rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on
the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read
at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request that you suspend
said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it
is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
