HomeMy WebLinkAbout15771 ORD - 09/17/1980• AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE COMPENSATION ORDINANCE, NO 8127, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 501 BY SUBSTITUTING THE ATTACHED REVISED SCHEDULE FOR THE EXISTING PUBLIC SAFETY GROUP SALARY SCHEDULE -FIRE, TO PROVIDE FOR A COST -OF -LIVING INCREASE OF 11.2% EFFECTIVE JULY 28, 1980, ADDITIONAL 3% COST -OF -LIVING INCREASE ABOVE PREVIOUS SALARY LEVELS EFFECTIVE JANUARY. 26, 1981 AND AN ADDITIONAL 1.5% COST - OF -LIVING INCREASE ABOVE PREVIOUS SALARY LEVELS EFFECTIVE JULY 12, 1981; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING A SEVERANCE CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Compensation Ordinance for the City of Corpus Christi, No. 8127, as amended, be and the same is hereby amended by amending Section 501 by substituting the attached revised Fire Salary Schedule, Exhibit "A", for the existing Public Safety Salary Schedule -Fire, reflecting an 11.2% cost -of -living increase effective July 28, 1980, additional 3% cost-of-livingincrease above previous salary levels effective January 26, 1981 and an additional 1.5% cost -of -living increase above previous salary levels effective July 12, 1981. SECTION 2. Except as otherwise may be provided herein, the effective date of the above change shall be July 28, 1980. SECTION 3. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose. SECTION 4. The necessity to maintain at all times an efficient administration of City affairs creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this 1577i_ IIIfigQfLMED UIP 274 N • ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the 17 day of September. 1980.
