HomeMy WebLinkAbout15845 ORD - 10/29/1980AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE JAPANESE ART MUSEUM FOR THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A MUSEUM, AS MORE FULLY SET FORTH IN THE AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE FORM ATTACHED HERETO AND MADE A PART HEREOF, MARKED EXHIBIT "A"; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with the Japanese Art Museum for the operation and maintenance of a museum, as more fully set forth in the agreement, in substantially the form attached hereto and made a part hereof, marked Exhibit "A". •SECTION 2. The necessity to authorize the aforesaid agreement in order that the understanding of the parties to the said -agreement may be reduced to writing at the earliest practicable date creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three' several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the 21 day of October, 1980. SEP 2 71984 AGREEMENT THE STATE OF TEXAS X COUNTY OF NUECES X WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is interested in recognizing and promoting the Japanese Art Museum, a nonprofit corporation; and WHEREAS, the Japanese Art Museum provides an opportunity for citizens of Corpus Christi to broaden their appreciation of the arts: The Japanese Art Museum agrees as follows: A. To maintain regular hours from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. B. To provide regularly scheduled educational instruction for all ages of citizens. C. To provide on site special cultural and educational tours; performing arts and craft demonstrations; and special film showings upon request of schools, civic, professional and multi-ethnic neighborhood groups consisting of senior citizens and handicapped persons. D. To conduct outreach programs on request at other city museums; libraries; recreation centers; service and professional clubs; educational institutions; USO and local military installations. E. To provide facilities and program support for Sister City functions. F. To provide facilities, program support and follow up contact in conjunction with city and county industrial development efforts,school authorities the area Tourist Bureau and Chamber of Commerce for visitations by Japanese businessmen, educators, tourist agencies, media and free lance writers. ' G. To comply with requests of the Japanese Consulate in Houston to coordinate special entertainment, tours and briefings for visiting dignitaries (e.g., Japanese Naval Officers and crew members from goodwill ships.) H. To provide an ongoing library program which entails maintenance of the existing collection, research and acquisition of appropriate volumes of cultural and educational value to our citizens and visitors to Corpus Christi. I. To maintain an ongoing program of cataloging existing exhibit items, new acquisitions, rotation of exhibits on site and developing mobile regional exhibits to enhance the image of the cultural appreciation and endeavors of our City. In consideration of the Japanese Art Museum providing the above for the benefit of the citizens of Corpus Christi, the City of Corpus Christi agrees to pay the Japanese Art Museum the sum of $7,000.00. The appropriation of the City of Corpus Christi is expressly for the purpose of utility and routine maintenance costs for the fiscal year 1980-81 up to the amount of $7,000.00. Method of payment will be by monthly reimbursement on receipt of paid statements covering City utilities, electricity, and telephone, and routine maintenance and maintenance supplies for a total not to exceed $7,000.00.
