HomeMy WebLinkAbout15966 RES - 01/07/1981jkh:1-7-81-1st A RESOLUTION ENDORSING PASSAGE BY THE TEXAS STATE LEGISLATURE OF SENATE BILL 56 RELATING TO 1tiiE EXEMPTION OF OUT-OF- STATE RESIDENTS UNDER 17 OR OVER 65 FROM BEING REQUIRED TO HAVE A FISHING LICENSE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, Senator Carlos Truan of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, has introduced Senate Bill 56 exempting out-of-state residents under the age of 17 or over the age of 65 from being required to have a fishing license; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 56 would help promote and encourage out- of-state residents under 17 or over 65 years of age to visit this State and freely engage in fishing as a recreational activity; and WHEREAS, such activity would help promote tourism and assist the State as well as the local economy: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi endorses the exemption of out-of-state residents under 17 or over 65 years of age from being required to have a fishing license and urges the Texas State Legislature to adopt Senate Bill 56. SECTION 2. The necessity of taking a position on exempting out-of-state residents from being required to have a fishing license, as hereinabove set forth, creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this resolution be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED this the ; day of J�uary, 1981.
