AMENDING SECTION 25.11 OF THE FIRE PREVENTION CODE SO
AS TO ALLOW LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS STORAGE TANKS TO
BE UP TO 2,000 GALLONS WATER CAPACITY AT SERVICE STATIONS
WHERE AUTHORIZED IN BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIAL ZONES AND UP TO
2,000 GALLONS IN THE "I-2" LIGHT INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT ZONES
(EXCEPT UP TO 8,000 GALLONS MAY BE GRANTED ON APPEAL).
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That The Fire Prevention Code be amended by amending
Section 25.11 of Chapter 25, Liquefied Petroleum Gases, to hereafter read
as follows:
25.11 Maximum Capacity of Storage Tanks
No storage container shall be installed, erected or used
for a capacity to hold more than one hundred fifty (150) water
gallons in any portion of the City except as follows:
a. Installations accessory to service stations as
permitted by the zoning ordinance, when the aggregate capacity
of any one such installation does not exceed 2,000 gallons of
water capacity.
b. Installations accessory to industrial uses permitted
in areas zoned industrial, when the aggregate capacity of any
one such installation does not exceed 2,000 gallons of water
capacity; except that in particular installations, this capacity
limit may be modified according to Section 2.01 so as to increase
the maximum allowable aggregate capacity to not more than 8,000
gallons of water capacity after consideration of special features
such as topographical conditions, nature of occupancy and proximity
tobuildings and adjacent zoning districts, capacity of proposed
tanks, degree of fire protection to be provided, and facilities of
the l=ire Department.
c. Installations in an area zoned for heavy industrial use.
provided, however, that this restriction shall not be applicable to
transportation purposes and provided further that containers
larger than 150 water gallons capacity may be authorized and
installed only after applicant has first obtained and presented to
the proper City Officials a written approval of such installation
by the Chief Engineer of the State Fire Insurance Commission and by
the Director of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Division of the Railroad
Commission.
