AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE COMPENSATION/CLASSIFICATION PLAN, ORDINANCE
NO. 8127, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 501 SALARY
SCHEDULES SALARY SCHEDULE A, BY AMENDING SALARY GRADE 8
AS MORE FULLY SET FORTH HEREINAFTER; AMENDING SECTION 510
ADMINISTRATIVE, EXECUTIVE, PROFESSIONAL AND LABORERS, BY
ESTABLISHING AND BY CHANGING CERTAIN POSITION TITLES,
CODES, AND CLASS GRADES; AMENDING SECTION 702 EDUCATIONAL
INCENTIVE PAY, TO UPDATE FIGURES WHICH WERE AUTHORIZED IN
THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND THE
CORPUS CHRISTI FIREFIGHTERS' UNION DATED AUGUST 1, 1978;
AMENDING SECTION 950 LEAVE OF ABSENCE, SUBSECTION 951.6,
TO REVISE VACATION POLICY TO ALLOW VACATION TO BE TAKEN
BY EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE COMPLETED SERVICE IN EXCESS OF SIX
MONTHS AND TO PROVIDE THAT NO TERMINATING EMPLOYEE WILL
BE PAID VACATION UNTIL HAVING WORKED AT LEAST TWELVE
MONTHS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; PROVIDING EFFECTIVE DATES;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 8127, the Compensation/Classifica-
tion Plan, as amended, be amended by amending Section 501 Salary Schedules,
Salary Schedule A, Salary Grade 8, effective August 10, 1981, to hereafter
read as follows:

SECTION 2. That Section 510 Administrative, Executive Professional,
and Laborers, be amended by reclassifying the following class code, title and
grade:

SECTION 3. That Section 702 Education Incentive Pay, Subsection
702.1, be amended to hereafter read as follows:
"702.1 Firefighters shall be eligible for educational incentive pay at the
monthly rate of 70¢ per month for each academic semester hour satisfactorily
completed, provided that such hours are applicable toward a degree in Fire
Science when employed in the Fire Division. Approved hours must include the
core curriculum in Fire Science. No more than $49.70 per month shall be
paid without successful completion of the requirements and the receipt of
the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire Science as applicable. If
the employee is attending a 4 -year college, he may meet this requirement by
filing a copy of his certified degree plan with the Director of Personnel
noting his expressed intent to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science
or Occupational Education with specialization in Fire Science. All approved
hours above the Associate Degree in Fire Science will be eligible for edu-
cational pay at this rate up to an additional $37.10 per month or'a combined
total of $86.80 per month. Successful completion of the requirements and
receipt of a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science or Occupational Education
with specialization in Fire Science will qualify the employee for a maximum
of $90.30 per month."
SECTION 4. That Section 950 Leave of Absence, Subsection 951.6,
be amended tohereafter- read as follows:
"951.6 No vacation credit shall be granted unless the employee has been
employed for a period of time in excess of 6 months. No vacation credit
shall be paid at termination unless the employee has been employed for a
period of time in excess of 12 months. No more than 30 working days of
vacation shall be paid an employee upon termination except as provided be-
low:
All accrued vacation shall be paid to employees or their bene-
ficiaries upon termination due to TMRS retirement of any full-
time employee, termination at age 62 or over upon completion
of a minimum of 10 years continuous service with the City, dis-
ability retirement in accordance with TMRS or Social Security
regulations, or death."
SECTION 5. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid
or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction
it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word, or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this
City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word,
or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall be effective upon its passage
except as stipulated within the ordinance.
SECTION 7. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to public neces-
sity of an efficient administration of City affairs, such finding of an emer-
gency is made and declaredrequiring suspension of the Charter rule as to
consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular
meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first
reading as an emergency measure this the IF day of September, 1981.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance or resolution,
an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you
suspend said Charter rule and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it 13
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
