HomeMy WebLinkAbout16723 ORD - 11/25/1981AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A ONE-YEAR LEASE AGREEMENT WITH THE INTERNATIONAL LONGSHOREMEN'S UNION LOCAL NO. 1224 FOR USE OF A CALICHE PARKING LOT AT 1824 MESQUITE STREET FOR PARKING IN CONNEC- TION WITH EVENTS AT THE HARBOR PLAYHOUSE AND THE CONVENTION CENTER, A SUBSTANTIAL COPY OF WHICH LEASE AGREEMENT IS ATTACHED HERETO AND MADE A PART HEREOF, MARKED EXHIBIT "A"; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to execute a one-year lease agreement with the International Longshoremen's Union Local No. 1224 for use of a caliche parking lot at 1824 Mesquite Street for parking in connection with events at the Harbor Playhouse and the Con- vention Center, all as more fully set forth in the lease agreement, a substantial copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof, marked Exhibit "A". SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for efficient administration of City affairs by providing additional parking facilities in connection with events at the Harbor Playhouse and the Conven- tion Center, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency this the ZS day of November, 1981. BRUCE AYCOCK, CITY ATTORNEY 16723 oftri THE 61rY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS B.CROFILMED THE STATE OF TEXAS X X COUNTY OF NUECES X aT LEASE AGREEMENT KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has developed the Bayfront Science Park including the Corpus Christi Museum, the Art Museum of South Texas, the Harbor Playhouse, and the Bayfront Plaza Convention Center; and WHEREAS, the demand for automobile parking spaces for persons attending events in these facilities occasionally exceeds the number of parking spaces avail- able in the Bayfront Science Park; and - WHEREAS, the International Longshoremen's Union Local No, 1224 owns property surrounded on three sides by the Bayfront Science Park, being lots 9, 10, 11, and 12, block 89, Beach Addition; and WHEREAS, Union has automobile parking spaces available for use for public parking for persons attending events in facilities in City's Bayfront Science Park located on lots 10, 11, and 12, block 89, Beach Addition NOW, THEREFORE THIS AGREEMENT is made and entered into by and between .the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, a municipal corporation, hereinafter referred to as City, pursuant to an ordinance authorizing this Agreement, and the International Longshoremen's Union Local No. 1224, hereinafter referred to as Union, and for such, WITNESSETH; 1. Union leases lots 10, 11, and 12, block 89, Beach Addition to City to be used for the purpose of public parking in the automobile parking spaces thereon. 2. City agrees to perform periodic maintenance of said automobile parking spaces, such maintenance to consist of grading and filling of holes with like material as necessary to maintain an all weather surface suitable for parking. 3. Union and City agree that the use of automobile parking spaces provided for in this Agreement shall be on an "as available basis", and neither party shall reserve said parking spaces for their exclusive use. 4. The term of this lease shall be one year commencing December 1, 1981, and ending November 30, 1982. WITNESS OUR HANDS, this the day of 1981.
