AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT
WITH JON C. LEWIS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE PURDUE
ROAD SIDEWALK PROJECT; APPROPRIATING $19,000.00 OF
WHICH $14,086.03 IS OUT OF THE NO. 162 FEDERAL/STATES
GRANT, DEPARTMENT 152, ACTIVITY 807.05, CODE 502 (7TH
YEAR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT) AND $4,913.97
IS OUT OF THE NO. 220 STREET BOND FUND APPLICABLE TO
PROJECT NO. 220-77-58, PURDUE ROAD SIDEWALKS, OF WHICH
APPROPRIATION, $15,775.30 IS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT AND $3,224.70 IS FOR ADDITIONAL ENGINEERING,
LEGAL ADVERTISING, CONTINGENCIES AND RELATED EXPENSES;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized
to execute a contract with Jon C. Lewis for construction of the Purdue Road
Sidewalk Project, all as more fully set forth in the plans and specifications
and contract documents on file in the office of the City Secretary, all of
which are made a part hereof by reference and according to the bid of Jon C.
Lewis, opened on the llth day of November, 1981, said bid being the lowest
and most advantageous to the City of Corpus Christi, Texas.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated $19,000.00 of
which $14,086.03 is out of the No. 162 Federal/States Grant, Department 152,
Activity 807.05, Code 502 (7th Year Community Development Block Grant) and
$4,913.97 is out of the No. 220 Street Bond Fund applicable to Project No.
220-77-58, Purdue Road sidewalks, of which appropriation, $15,775.30 is for
the construction contract and $3,224.70 is for additional engineering, legal
advertising, contingencies and related expenses.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five
Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the
need of executing the aforesaid contract so that construction of the Purdue
Road sidewalk project can begin at the earliest practicable date, such finding
of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three

regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect
upon first reading as an emergency measure this the %4 day of December,
