AMENDING COMaNSATION ORDINANCE NO. 8127 BY
ESTABLISHING'A NEW SECTION 709 CITY MANAGER
COMPENSATION/EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS AS MORE
FULLY SET FORTH HEREIN, PROVIDING FOR A
SEVERANCE CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Compensation Ordinance No. 8127 be
amended by establishing a new Section 709 City Manager
Compensation/Employment Benefits as follows:
709 CITY MANAGER COMPENSATION/EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
709.1 The City Manager shall be compensated at an annual salary
of $70,000. At the end of 6 months of employment, the City
Council shall evaluate the City Manager's job performance and
determine what, if any, additional compensation shall be paid to
the manager. Periodic future evaluations of the City Manager's
job performance and salary adjustments may be made from time to
time as scheduled by the City Council.
709.2 Upon assumption of full time duties, the City Manager
shall be entitled to accrue vacation leave with pay at a rate not
to exceed 20 working days for each year of continuous service to
be accrued on the basis of 26 biweekly pay periods a year. The
maximum vacation days allowed to be accrued at any time shall be
40 working days. Accrued vacation leave with pay shall not be
granted until after 6 months of continuous service. With the
exception of the provisions set forth herein, all other vacation
leave benefits provided under Section 951 of the Compensation
Plan shall be applicable.
709.3 Upon assumption of full time duties, the City Manager
shall immediately accrue 10 working days of sick leave with pay.
Thereafter, the City Manager shall accrue additional sick leave
with pay at a rate not to exceed 12 working days for each year of
continuous service to be accrued on the basis of 26 biweekly pay
periods a year. With the exception of the provisions set forth
herein, all other sick leave benefits provided under section 952
of the Compensation Plan shall be applicable.
709.4 A deposit of $70,000 upon appointment shall be made by the
City as a transfer incentive which sum shall be placed in trust
and payable to the City Manager only if terminated by the
Council; otherwise to be retained by the City if the City Manager
terminates voluntarily.
709.5 The City shall pay for all required and related moving
expenses to the City of Corpus Christi which are incurred by the
City Manager as a result of initial employment with the City. A
temporary allowance not to exceed $2,000 shall also be paid to
the manager for reimbursement of temporary living expenses.
709.6 The City Manager shall be provided a term life insurance
policy of at least $50,000 face value as a part of the City's
group life insurance program. All life insurance premium for the
cost of the City Manager's personal coverage under this policy
shall be paid by the City.

SECTION 2. The effective date of the above change
shall be from and after the passage of this ordinance.
SECTION 3. If any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held
invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of
competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section,
paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this
ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council
that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, word, phrase
or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its
purpose.
SECTION 4. That upon written request of the Mayor or
five Council Members, copy attached, to find and declare an
emergency due to the need of efficient administration of City
affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared
requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and
voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings
so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first
reading as an emergency measure this the .20 day of January,
1982.

an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings; 1/we, therefore, request that you
suspend said Charter rule and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
