AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8127, SECTION 600,
INITIAL ADJUSTMENTS TO THE COMPENSATION PLAN,
BY ADDING SECTION 610, TRANSITION OF CITY
EMPLOYEES UNDER THE STATE MERIT SYSTEM TO THE
CITY'S COMPENSATION AND CLASSIFICATION PLAN;
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8127 BY DELETING IN
ITS ENTIRETY SECTION 506, ADOPTION OF
COMPENSATION PLAN WHICH REFERENCES AUTHORITY
TO UTILIZE STATE MERIT SYSTEM COMPENSATION
SCHEDULE AND POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN FOR
HEALTH AND WELFARE EMPLOYEES; AND AMENDING
ORDINANCE NO. 3658 BY AMENDING SECTION 255,
HEALTH AND RECREATION, BY ADDING NEW CLASS
CODES, TITLES, AND GRADES; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERANCE; PROVIDING EFFECTIVE DATES; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY'THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION. 1. That Ordinance No. 8127, Section 600,
Initial Adjustments to the Compensation Plan, be amended by
adding Section 610 to read as follows:
Transition of City Employees Under the State Merit System to the
City's Compensation and Classification Plan
Effective February 1, 1982, all City employees under the State
Merit System shall be transitioned into the City's Compensation
Plan at their current salaries as follows utilizing position
titles within the City's Compensation and Classifcation Plan.

These employees shall remain at their current salary until
July 26, 1982, unless otherwise eligible to advance earlier as a
result of longevity. Those employees eligible to advance earlier
as a result of longevity will advance to the salary step within
the specified grade for that position, without resulting in a
loss of pay to the employee. Those employees.not transitioned by
July 26, 1982, shall be placed in the City's Compensation Plan in
the same manner on that date. Eligibility for further
advancement will be obtained after the completion of normal
periods of service in grade and step as provided in the General
Salary Schedule, unless otherwise granted in conformity with the
requirements of paragraph 552.7, 552.8, or 552.8.1.
SECTION 2. That Ordinance No. 8127, Section 506,
Adoption of Compensation Plan, be amended by deleting this
section which reads as follows:
"This compensation plan is hereby adopted according to the
following, and as amended from time to time, except that the City
Manager shall have the authority to utilize the State Merit
System Compensation Schedule and Position Classification Plan for
Health and Welfare employees meeting the required step and grade
qualifications and working in the same division with State
employees who are under such Merit System."
SECTION 3. That Ordinance No. 3658 be amended by
amending Section 255, Health and Recreation, by adding the
following new class

SECTION 4. If for any reason any section, paragraph,
subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance
shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a
court of competent jurisdiction it shall not affect any other
section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or
provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of
this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word, or provision hereof be given full force and
effect for its purpose.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage except as stipulated within the ordinance.
SECTION 6. That upon written request of the Mayor or
five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an
emergency due to public necessity of an efficient administration
of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and
declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to
consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings 80 that this ordinance is passed and shall take
effect upon first reading .as an emergency measure this the

introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
