HomeMy WebLinkAbout16862 ORD - 02/10/1982AN ORDINANCE - APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS AND SPECIAL CANVASSING BOARD FOR ABSENTEE BALLOTING FOR ALL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS FOR THE YEAR 1982, AND INCLUDING THE FEBRUARY 20, 1982 BOND ELECTION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That for the purpose of conducting and holding the bond election in the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, on the 20th day of February, 1982, and all other municipal elections during the calendar year 1982, the following Presiding Judges and Alternate Presiding Judges, respectively, are hereby appointed for each of the Election Precincts of said City, and for the special canvassing board which shall count and canvass the absentee votes, all as indicated below. Each such Presiding Judge shall appoint not less than two nor more than four (4) qualified election clerks to serve at the elections, but one of such clerks shall be the Alternate Presiding Judge. The election judge shall, in addition to his alternate, appoint not less than one (1) nor more than four (4) election clerks, and the rate of pay for all election personnel shall be not more than Four and No/100 Dollars ($4.00) per hour, except that the judge shall receive an additional Twenty -Five Dollars ($25.00) for picking up and delivering the election materials. SECTION 3. The following are appointed as the special canvassing board for absentee balloting: Don Moseley, Chairman Marjorie Morrill Rose Rubio Such board shall meet at 1:00 p.m. on the date of the election for the purpose of canvassing the absentee balloting by mail and personal appearance. SECTION 4. An election school for judges and clerks will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall four (4) days preceding each election. SECTION 5. By approving and signing this ordinance, the Mayor officially confirms as his action all matters recited in the ordinance which by law come within his jurisdiction. SECTION 6. The necessity to immediately designate voting precincts, polling place locations, election judges and alternates and a special canvassing board, all as hereinabove set forth, in order that elections in the City of Corpus Christi may be conducted in an orderly manner and in Eonformity with the election statutes creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having deClared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the/or:A.41y of February, 1982.
