HomeMy WebLinkAbout16953 ORD - 03/24/19823-9-82 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, SECTION 55-38, CUSTOMERS' CHECKS, AND ADDING A NEW SECTION 17-1.2 SERVICE CHARGE FOR RETURNED CHECKS, TO PROVIDE FOR A SERVICE CHARGE OF $10 FOR CHECKS RETURNED AS NON- NEGOTIABLE/NONCASHABLE SUBMITTED AS PAYMENT TO THE CITY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinances be amended by amending Section 55-38 CustomersChecks, to hereafter read as follows: 55-38. Customers' Checks. Any customer issuing a check to the City for payment of a utility account shall be charged ten dollars ($10) for the handling of said check if the check is returned as nonnegotiable/noncashable by the City's bank of deposit for reason of no funds, account closed or for any other reason.., The nonpayment of such charge could result in the service being disconnected and customer's deposit applied against the services. SECTION 2. That the Code of Ordinances be amended by adding a new section, 17-1.2 Service Charge for Returned Checks, said section to hereafter read as follows: 17.1.2 Service Charge for Returned Checks. In addition to any other authorized penalty or interest, there is hereby established a service charge of ten dollars ($1O) for any checks returned as nonnegotiable/noncashable to any department, division, or entity of the City of Corpus Christi. SECTION 3. That all ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 4. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi one time, which publication shall contain the caption stating in substance the purpose of the ordinance.
