Beck, Jr., a long-time resident and widely known civic and industrial leader, was on April 15, 1982, called to his eternal rest; and WHEREAS, 0. J. Beck, Jr., was well known as a dedicated citizen of the community, and will be remembered in Corpus Christi as a business and area leader, having served as a trustee for the Corpus Christi Industrial Foundation for six years; as Vice -President of the Corpus Christi Airport Development Corporation for four years; on the Board of Directors of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce and currently a Director of the Board. He recently had been appointed Chairman of the Corpus Christi Industrial Commission; had been on the Ada Wilson Board of Directors for six years and was to have been installed as President of that Board. A former chairman of the City Planning Commission, Mr. Beck served on the Planning Commission from 1968 to 1971; he had been on the Board of Trustees of the Hearth and had served as President. Mr. Beck had served on the Del Mar Technical Advisory Board, and more recently had been a member of the 1981 Committee of 16, a blue-ribbon group of business and professional leaders selected to provide input on various municipal issues and problems; and WHEREAS, O. J. Beck, Jr., chose for his vocation the construction field, and. had been actively engaged in Corpus Christi and surrounding area in one of the largest general contracting firms which he and his father founded in 1946, and numerous multi -million -dollar building jobs at local colleges, universities, hospitals, apartments and other projects were completed by the firm. Long active in the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), O. J. Beck, Jr., had served on the Board of the South Texas Chapter, served on various committees, and had served as President of the South Texas Chapter for the past two years; and WHEREAS, his vast knowledge and unselfish contribution to the community have benefited innumerable people, and his passing is a great loss to the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi as well as to his family and many friends, leaving an irreplaceable void in the community: SEP zs loSIA 17000 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments, contributions and public service of 0. J. Beck, Jr., be recalled and that the citizens of this community join in memorializing the passing of this esteemed citizen, friend, husband, and father. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the family of 0. J. Beck, Jr. • PASSED AND APPROVED this the 21st day of April, 1982.
